NJ Inspection

I dont know if I can post this here or not, but I think this would be a good discussion.

Do you take your trucks to a private inspection or state? Maybe we can make a list of what we can get away with and/or certain laws.

I tried taking mine through the state and failed twice. Once for the check engine light didnt turn on (last owner ripped the bulb out) and the plate lights were blue (they were actually bright white, but I guess they were color blind). The 2nd time was for throwing 2 codes.

I checked into lowering a vehicle. It must have a minimum of 3" clearance. My Sonoma headlights are "cleared"....removed the orange reflectors. No problems with that.

For now on, im taking mine through a private inspection. I hate the "attitudes" the inspectors give you and one a**hole inspector reved my engine way above redline. If he would of blew my engine, I wonder whose fault it would be?

Re: NJ Inspection

yeh nj inspection sucks, ive been there 3 times, the first i failed cuz my ebrake and tinited windows, next time i failed cuz my headlights were apparently not mounted right, then i took the tint off to pass and now my emmisions are messed up, didnt say anything about my turn down dumping before the axle or my bags, i dont even have door handles. If you dont have door handles as long as you have a button somewhere outside the vehicle to open it (just velcro your key fob in your gas lid) they cant fail you for it.

Re: NJ Inspection

I just pass with HID's 4300k in my truck.. It did fail for my tail lights not being DOT approved. I'll just get my friends stock ones and throw them on.

Does anyone know if a Frenched tailgate will pass inspection that has two DOT lights to light up the plate? and the plate is on a 35 degrees angle.

Re: NJ Inspection

Frenched tail lights should pass if they are DOT aproved, unless the vehical is 1968 or newer and doesn't have a light visable from the sides (both front and rear). In 1968 the DOT made side marker lamps manditory. They also must meet DOT regulations.

As for tags, there is no law saying that it can't be angeled, sideways or upsidedown for that matter, but you could fail inspection or get a ticket because inspector/police find it illegible. You could get that ticket for a dirty tag, if you had a clear cover on your tag and it was clarked or anything. It's just how it's interprited (SUCKS!).

Re: NJ Inspection

inspection sucks in jersey, one of my friends has tinted windows and went to the state (rolled windows down) and they didnt even look at the windows to see if they were tinted or not, than my other friend went with tinted windows to the state and failed...so im guessing it depends on who inspects your truck and what kinda mood they are in

my truck never had a problem with my shaved handles, you just need a popper either behind your gas door, or velcroed somewhere in the bed for the time being at the inspection station. I went to the mays landing inspection station

Thats good to know. I got next year and I just shaved my handles. The only thing with that is that my poppers are wired to the alarm so I gotta press the button twice. I dunno how yours is wired up.

My doors pop on the first hit, just tell them to press it twice. If they complain tell them its for security reasons.
