ontario highway traffic act... got pulled over and fined large!
hey folks,
I am writing this because this seems like the place to go for expert advice I was pulled over today and giving a crap load of fines but a notorious local officer that seems to make his own revisions of the HTA i drive a 95 gmc sonoma thats custom, heres where i need your help heres the issues he pointed out 1. window tint at the top of the front windsheild touches the wiper path 2. my rear plate cant be mounted in the back window it must be on the back of the truck 3. i have no marker lights on the rear of the truck 4. my led taillights are not dot and not bright enough 5. my rims are too big (WTF?!?!?) they cant me more than two sizes bigger than factory so for number 1, it only hits 1" of the tint at the top... so ill run a smaller wiper blade... for number 2, ill just mount it on the back of the tailgate... the only problem i have is with the tail lights ![]() do i need marker lights in the rear or can i just run a set of MTO approved refectors on each corner?? and can i run the led tails? the officer claims "once the OEM tail lights were removed the truck was deemed "unfit or broken" thanks for your help guys and girls |

Do they have inspections in ontario? If so I don't understand why they would pass you just to get a ticket. That cop just wanted to be a dick.

Re: ontario highway traffic act... got pulled over and fined large!
grab a copy of the ontario hta and look it up yourself. this place is not the place to get "expert" advice.
the ontario hta is sometimes vague in its explaination of whats legal and whats not. the descriptions are not always clear. its up to the descrestion of the cop and what they feel is right or wrong. fight the ticket for sure. u got nothing to loose. youve already been fined. good luck. |

1 through 4 seem to be legit, those are all mods that I would be worried about having.
Now that being said, the cop has to be a real dick to get you with all of them. as for the rim thing, that sounds like BS to me. |

Re: ontario highway traffic act... got pulled over and fined large!
HTA says no coatings on the windows to the right, left, or infront of the driver. So no tint on your windshield or front windows.
Plate has to be to the furthest point back on any vehicle and be luminated by a white light. The rear end of any vehicle needs to reflect back a red light from a vehicles approaching you from behind, so, mount a red bike reflector or one from Princess Auto on your plate (thats why some vehicles have red feflectors mounted in their bumpers when the tails themselves dont have a refelctor) For wheels, you can go any size, however, your wheels need to not rub on ANY part of the vehicle and must be able to turn completly from lock to lock. And technically, they mustnt stick out further than your fender. All this being said, the HTA gives an officer the right to ticket you for anything he feels to be unsafe or a distraction to other motorists. You could actually get a ticket for a disco ball hanging on your rearview mirror or your kids making faces out the back window...gay, but true. What I would do would be fix the items you got ticketed for, take pictures, fight it in court, and plead that you were on aware that what you did was illegal, but, once informed from the officer of the infractions, that you went and made the nessecary modifications. If you have good withstanding record and show that you made the changes, you will likely have the infractions thrown out...however, the officer that ticketed you, will be out to get you bad for ANYTHING he can in the future, lol Last edited by K Dawg ONE : 07-30-2008 at 01:18 PM. |

Re: ontario highway traffic act... got pulled over and fined large!
On the back of your ticket, there is an option for 'Guilty with explaination', check that one and you will get a 'First Offence Meeting' with the Crown'. Its not going to trial, but, it admits that yes, according to law you were wrong and the officer was right in issuing you a ticket. But, it also gives you a chance to plead your case and have some or all of the fines thrown out or at least lowered. Basically, its a plea bargain for admitance of guilt.

ask firm, tt85 gm, blk n blue, just to name a few and now the help (i have a total of 3.5h sleep in me and also really stoned at the moment so my spelling and grammer are out the window lol ) 1. acording to the hta there needs to be 14 inchs of untinted window space for the driver to see out of, thats the legal limit anything less and your just gonna get hassled and fined instead of just getting hassled, i worked at a window tint shop for 6 months,pt. 2. my plate has been frenched into my rear window courtsy of fbi rides(ps its also for sale 150 takes window and 3 step cleaner/polish n billit plate light)technicly the plate has to be on the further most point fo the vechle but i think as long as its clerly visible from behind and also lit up some how. 3.this one i cant really say cuz i never seen your truck other than said provided, ballin/sick pic.......but none the less as lond as you have a running light module to make your tail light have a running light/signal/and also a brake and dont tell me you can do that cuz i got 10inch leds in my pan that did just that till i drove thre a constriction site a while back n now only my one light works but from experience and from what i see your gonna get raped if you dont have reverse lightsand you have the 12.5 if im not mistakin. 4.this is gonna make you howel.... smoke a joint appx. a half inch think by 1.5-2 inch long, hop in you truck and drive to princessauto, parts source, crappytire, etc. and buy the smallestletter punch set and a mini torch.....lift your truck or remove your lail lights and look at the letters and numbers on you factory tail lights, you know the stock ones every eather tints too much or replaces...... and pick out the coresponding letter punches and turn on the torch and heat the punchs and the carefully mark you leds with the markings on the stockers.............and booyachsaa, you now have dot app led tail lights...... lol.....or just run caddy tails so that only the haters can hassle you since they are a factory tail light.5. (hahahahahahahahahah..........hahahahahah......hah ahah.....haha....oh that was a good one considering im gonna be really screwed since im layin rocker on 24`s bitch what what **** the police what what **** the police) sorry bout the mental out burst.... they cant say shit about how big your rims are cuz tahos and escaldes and htwizzles are rollin 20s from factory...and aslong as your tire doesnot not make contack with any other surface then the streets and haters you can tell the pig to suck on it freestyle. i hope you read this befor you go to court and if you need/ want me to come out there with pics and descriptions of the various ill modifactions we have done you know since we can tell the crown that im your mechanic/painter/welder and helped build your truck from the ground up with the hta book in my hand for papes im all down for it bro us minitruckers gotta stick together one other final mention a had no part in building this truck even tho i will probally dream of it to night the the following outburst is to be used in the court of law to help out a fellow minitrucker and if any one needs my legal help/ bullshiting skills not a problem at all i ****ing hate cops, hate court but being an asshole when i get pulled over cuz my trucks too low to the ground and so- called looks like i am driving on three wheels....stupid cops. ok now im done if you need help in this matter and i dont respond to the fourm in time my email is nos_ridz@hotmail.com add me to msn or w.e. |

Re: ontario highway traffic act... got pulled over and fined large!
My oppinion... to get threw it.. some of it may sound cobbled... but might save you insurance money..
1: peel the tint off 2-4:now this may sound weird... but if you couls make a bracket that mounts in between the tonnue and tailgate so the tonnue sits up4-6" higher you could use factory tail lights and mount a stupid light for your lience plate on it.. i know itsa ghetto idea.. but have seen it pass a safety on a completly shaved truck and all you had to do to take it off was 2 wing nuts and one connector for the wireing... but hey.. it passed a safety and he took the certificate to court and won his case. As for the "marker light" technically all vehicals must have a marker (side light) on each corner, just as all big rigs and thier trailers need to too 5: i do beleive the rule of thumb is no moveing part can come into contact of any non moving part.. inotherwords no rub.. no sign's or rub or anything like that.. i halfto spray some black into my inners weekly to hide the evidence.. Kris has posted a LOT of usefull info for you to go off of, and Marco... nex time you have a toke... go listen to pinkfloyd or sumthin buddy!!! Im never a dick to the cops anymore.. so what if im a dick to them.. they're just going to shove more tickets into your hand.. i never plead guilty, always innocent, and discuss with the crown at the court appearance, if you settle with the crown for a lesser fine, or something similar you can save big, or you can fight it to the bitter end.. either way.. best of luck to you bud!! Oh... how about a couple morepix of truck??? ![]() ??? |

Re: ontario highway traffic act... got pulled over and fined large!
yeah those are pretty typical offenses almost anywheres. the only one we dont have down here is the thing about wheels. i was going to suggest similar to what blk n blu did about the temporary tails and even license plate on the same contraption. i guess i can understand the whole issue about larger wheels with tires rubbing. maybe they are also considering that most people who run larger wheels dont bother to upgrade their brakes accordingly and larger wheels kill your stopping distance and time with oem brakes. i can see where that could pose a safety concern.

Re: ontario highway traffic act... got pulled over and fined large!
If he pleads not guilty, itll go to trial, and hell be found guilty anyways. The law is the law, no way around it (its right there in the HTA). Its not a moving violation so its not points. I would still plead Guilty with Explanation. If you do youll get to see the justice of peace. Show him with pics of before and after that you fixed it (even if it is half assed) and if you got dinged with 5 different charges, a bunch of them will likely get thrown out and the one or two that end up sticking will be lessened because you righted your wrong. When I first started driving truck, i got pulled without a copy of my CVOR, driving in the lefthand lane, not having my log up to date, my plate being obscured (it was covered in snow), and speeding. I pleaded GWE and said that I was just sort of thrown in at the last minute because they needed a driver for the day (it was a single axle without airbrakes so just my 'G' was ok) so I had no idea about the CVOR, my log, or the lefthand lane (I said I thought the NO TRUCKS signs were saying that trucks would not fit under the overpasses in that lane). The snow on the plate I said couldnt be helped because of weather but that I always brushed it off at deliveries. For the speeding, I said, its 401 in Missassauga on a Friday at rush hour, I was just keeping up with traffic. I had everything thrown out except the CVOR ticket (which my work payed) and the speeding ticket, which got lowered so that I just payed $105 and no points.
