Insurance increase
My insurance is up for renewal and I noticed that it is $20 more a month than last year. I called and they said that all companies have increased rates and will show up when the policies are up for renewal. He said that it is due to the economy and all that and they need to make sure there is enough money in their reserves.
Has anyone else heard this or had this happen to them in the recent past?? I still cant really complain because I have full coverage and some extra stuff and still pay less than people I know with cheaper cars that are older than my truck, but it was still a bit of a surprise. I am with PC Financial by the way. |

Re: Insurance increase
Hmm so I guess its differs depending on the place and situation. After the increase, its now about $1200 a year full coverage on the truck with accident forgiveness and my winter beater on it too. I am 28, so maybe all of my stuff had already gone down as far as it was gonna and now it has just gone back up a bit. I will see how it is when I take my winter car off of the policy in a week or so. Thanks for all the replies guys!

Re: Insurance increase
1200$ a year? don't be complaining lol.
I've heard its going up for a lot of people as well... The sad thing is, these companies use your money to not only pay out claims, but to make more money. Thus yes, most if not all of the larger insurance companies very likely have significant exposure to markets south of the border, here and elsewhere around the world. Thats the "reserve" bs they are talking about. If the option is between stiffing the public, or stiffing the shareholders, as we've seen thousands of times before, the public always gets the stiff. Gone are the days when an insurance company is just an insurance company. |

Re: Insurance increase
Shit, I tried getting my truck insured through silver star. They told me that you need to have a drivers license for 10 years, need a clean record, vehicle must be 15 year or older, must be considered a collectible vehicle, need to have a daily insured under a different company, and the vehicle must have under 150k(which i don't think is true). I told them if my truck would be considered a collectible vehicle to them and they said to send pics. I sent them the pics u see in my avater and they said the truck is fine but because it has over 150k they will not accept it. I think thats bullsh*t because on there website, there's nothing that says anything about the vehicle have to be under 150k. My dad had his car insured under them for 8 years and they never asked for the odometer reading. I have a feeling they just said that because of my age. Anyways, I didn't argue with them because I don't have enough driving experiece. I just called to see if they would insure my truck. But I'm going to try again this year and see what they tell me.

Re: Insurance increase
Oh seriously, ease off, there are a lot of 50 zones around for no apparent reason. Hell my office is located on a street that has a 40k limit, and most people go 60-70 on it.
The truth is most of you speed, whether you admit it or not, because frankly if you don't, pull over, stay in the right line, and get the heck out of the way. The problem is this. Car A is doing the speed limit, Car B and C are speeding slightly over and coming up behind Car A. Car B realises Car A is a slow old grandmother, and gasses it to cut infront of car C, because he obviously doesnt want to slow down to get in behind. However its toolate, and Car B cuts off Car C, performing his own pitbull manuver, next thing he's in the oppposite ditch, Car B is in the near ditch. Car A, the one doing the speed limit keeps on going, oblivious to what happened behind her. By the law, Car B is completely at fault, but frankly Car A set up the scenario for this accident to happen. Had Car A been at same speed as Car B and C, B may not have cut off C. I've seen this first hand, as I've been Truck D behind Car B and C. I do cruise 10-20 over, no accidents, no tickets for speeding, only failure to show insurance (it was out dated by a week and the cop was an asshole) |

Re: Insurance increase
Further, there are a few states experimenting with higher speed limits, and no speed limits, instead of the standard 55mph national average (US). They're producing studies showing near identical rates of car deaths as states with speed limits. The upside is the state saves on court costs by not having to prosecute speeders.
Now im not saying autobahn for all... like some car manufacturers would like apparently... But we're driving with speed limits from 40 years ago. Yet we're not driving cars from 40 years ago (weekend warrior muscle cars are an exception, but they don't account for the majority of accidents). IMO 110 or 120 on provincial highways, 80's to 90's, 60's to 70's, 50 to 55 for non school, keep school zones @ 50. Subdivisions and housing areas should stay at 40 if not go down to 35, frankly I support lower in subdivisions, because the risk is not to other drivers or the driver- its to the kids playing hockey on the street or riding bikes around. Re: Insurance increase
well i dont speed in rez or school zones if thats what you grandmas are bitchin about, but i know where all the piggies hide in my area so i dont get booked... not only that but i have this skill of knowing what a car is from the headlight silouette at night.
but now these piggies are getin trickier with fake cabby signs on their cars. i dont drive out of my abilities if thats what your all so worried about, really riding on the streets for so many yrs taught me alot about how stupid ppl really are and how you should always expect the unexpected... now i forgot what i was sayin... |

knowing what the car is from the headlight silouette wouldn't help you on trafalger rd, theres a certain unmarked car that would get ya cause you'd have no idea it was a cop car

Re: Insurance increase
Maybe if car A was in the right lane, car C would cut in front of car B and end up with the same end result. The accident has no baring on what lane or what speed car A is going so I do not understand why the person who is driving legally is the problem?? If car B and C were doing the speed limit then there would be no issue at all.Your right, I dont do the speed limit, but I also dont do 30-50 over, that is a little extreme in my eyes, I do around 5-10 over at most and normally it is to keep up with traffic on the way to work in a 60 zone in an industrial side of town. The reason for that is because I am aware that if I get a ticket my insurance goes up and I will be pissed at paying more. At the same time, if I ever got in an accident that happened cause I came up on a car doing the speed limit, I def wouldnt blame him, it would be my fault for speeding |
