E-test
Well, I went for one yesterday. Boy, was I nervous.
I'm running a custom 2.25" y-pipe merged into a 3" in/out Magnaflow highflow cat, into a 2.5" in/out Spintech Prostreet muffler, straight dumped about a foot back from the cab. Pretty much a one way ticket to Failtown. I had to hold the probe to what little tailpipe I had. And holy shit, was it ever loud in the bay. At 40km/h the drone and whine from the tires on the rollers was intense. BUT, I did pass. I told the guy doing the test I was happily surprised I wouldn't have to swap cats and come back. He laughed. Then backing the truck out of the bay, he scrubbed my front tires on the shocks so damn hard before I could get to him. The black semi circle on the silver shocks is huge now lol. So, for any of you out there in the same boat as me, you might be ok. ![]() |

Re: E-test
nice! here if you dont have a tail pipe that reaches to the back or side for the tube its a automatic fail. Reminds me i got to get my 99 sonoma tested this month. they just plug in to the computer and check the emission system make sure its all working right and no codes set. funny thing no cat on the truck OBD2 never noticed, been 2 years and no codes. haha.

Re: E-test
sweet man. I am an emission tester....and if I was having a bad day I probably woulda told you to go home and rig up some kinda temporary tailpipe - technically we're not suppose to test anything without a full tailpipe. However on a good day I probably woulda tested it. I am not surprised that it passed, it's pretty rare that one of these things fail...I've tested a number of bagged trucks, and tons of old beaters and I don't remember ever failing a 2nd gen s10 as long as the engine is running right and you have a somewhat effective cat it'll pass(for these trucks at least).

When I got my etest with my truck bagged I got my buddy to do it and we had to jimmy rig the probe to the tailpipe just so we could do the test, bungee cords always come in handy haha

Re: E-test
engine codes are not an instant failure....tons of cars pass with engine codes. Evap code might just be a bad gas cap too.

Re: E-test
As for the cash grab? The Drive clean facilities are getting screwed. They have a huge investment in this and make very little in return to maintain and update. The MTO just sucks! Just my 2 1/2 cents.... |

Re: E-test
As far as getting the shit boxes off the road go....I've seen improvements, but not enough. What I have seen recently is people calling in to the MTO(or MTE) when they see a smoking car on the road, that person is then forced to get a test. Alot of the original loopholes in the program have also been fixed, but what I think will stay is the $450 repair cost limit.....and although I see it's merit, it really just gives anyone with an old junker a simple way to keep it on the road....and usually(almost always) for alot less than $450. |

Re: E-test
i hate the fact they got rid of the 20 year rule. was soo forward to not having to test the yota. And as for the seafoam killing your cat..never seen that one before. but i do know chev had a huge problem with faulty cats. i've replaced many.

Re: E-test
Ive heard horror stories regarding smaller ETest shops fugging the results of the test. And fly by night outfits passing cars that should have been pulled off the road. Plus the test is every two years so lots can happen between now and the next test. I can honestly say its nice not to see those flippen Mitsubishi equipped Caravans blowing blue smoke in the air. Havent seen one for a Looonng time. As for the shit boxes running around in Ottawa? Probably ****ing polititians...most probably NDP :-) I looked into dropping a V8 into my Sonoma. I was told if I did this there was a "Hot Rod" Class they would etest my vehical under? Is this True? Tomas |

Re: E-test
Yes they consider a "Hot-Rod vehicle" as any vehicle that is equipped with an engine that was not available from the manufacturer in that model, ever.

Re: E-test
Tom, I remeber meeting you, I just didn't remeber your name, sorry. lol And yes there were plenty of small shops that used to fake tests.....but the government kinda made an example of a couple places(250k fine + jail time) and I haven't heard of anything like that since. Alot of the car you see blowing smoke do pass e-tests b/c they only blow on acceleration....the test gets readings at speed...so once a chrysler 2.7 gets up to a stabil speed it can still pass even if it blows on accleration...Stupid yes, but true. |

Re: E-test
Everything newer than 88 gets a sniffer test every 2 years....Except cars 5 years old and newer - they only need it for change of ownership.
