Re: Volvo turbo on s10

me and my fried are toying around with the idea for his beater ranger- his teacher was talking to him about it (tech school) and said hes done it and its nice because you dont have to do much internally besides heavier springs because you aren't running that much pressure

Re: Volvo turbo on s10

Im big into building high performance volvo's actually. If you want a good turbo from a volvo I would reccomend the mitsu td04 15g from the 850 turbos or the more common .42/63 or .42/48 t3 garrett. The t3's are efficient up to about 15 psi with an intercooler until you swap the compressor out for a t4. the 15g's have fast spool and are efficient to about 20 psi with an intercooler. they have a raised lip on the turbine flange that you will need to get milled flat and they both share a t3 style flange. Take your pick

Re: Volvo turbo on s10

the only reason the 240 turbo didn't need an intercooler is it only ran about 4 pounds of boost at maximum, pretty much anything more than that will need at least a small intercooler or your intake temperatures will skyrocket

the non IC cars ran 6 max and that was only for the first 2 years then they added the ic which was one of the best intercoolers they had in the 80's for cheap and still is today. If he gets a volvo turbo he should grab the IC too, its common sense.

You're an idiot kid. No factory turbo car ran 4 lbs of boost. And needing an intercooler or not is not a necessity. It's based off how much power you want. Without an intercooler, you can not run as much timing because you'll have 200 degree + intake temps. any advanced timing would result in knock.

IOWNOMA95... Your turbo doesn't need to come from any specific car... you just need the right size. I wouldn't go bigger than a .60 a/r turbine side becuase these engines don't rev enough to spool it. I'd go with a .48a/r or .53a/r for your turbine.

And if you want low boost, big power, look for a t3/t4 style turbo. small .48a/r T3 turbine will spool quick, and a larger t4 sized (.63-.70a/r) compressor will net you the most power per psi.

Re: Volvo turbo on s10

then that's most likely a 6 lb wastegate spring.
all gate springs are slightly off.
