Thumbs up Supercharger Thread

I'm a newbe doing some research on superchargers for the 4.3L V6. Thought it would be a good idea to start a SC thread to gather some current info. I'd like to stick with a kit (newbe) to keep it simple.

Stuff I'm looking for:
Brand.
Model #.
Boost.
HP Gain.
Price / Vendor.
What years will it fit.
Complexity of install (oil lines vs no oil lines for example).
ECU (New one in kit, reprogram stock unit).
Additional Items needed or recommended (ie, fuel pump, injectors, ignition, etc).

That should get me started. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I learn more about the available options.

Thank you,
Doug

Re: Supercharger Thread

Gutlesswonder,

I did do some searching, and I did find some info here, and some info there. My goal with this thread was to try to compile all current info in one place.

Good idea, let's do it.
Bad idea, please delete this thread.

Later,
Doug

Re: Supercharger Thread

4.3 V6.

On the Powerdyne website they have a unit for 1996-2000 and another unit for 2001-2002. What changed between 2000 and 2001?

I am most interested in the 96-00 engine.

Thanks,
Doug

Re: Supercharger Thread

They include headers for the '01-'02 kit. Not sure why though. The same '96 up kit should be a bolt of for all '96 up trucks. '98-'00 some trucks had air injection. '02 egr was eliminated, so that tube can be eliminated from the headers.

The biggest issue i see is the air injection on '98-'00 trucks, if you don't have it you should be able to run any of the kits. If you are willing to eliminate it, then you should be all set.

You have 4 options that i know of.
The mach performance kit. Uses an ATI blower, it includes an interclooler. The company has a bad reputation on the s-10 sites lately.

Vortech, 7psi. No internal belt to break. You have to tap into the oil pan. If i was getting a kit it would probably be this one.

Powerdyne, 7psi, has an internal belt that can be a limmiting factor when upping boost. On the cheeper end of the scale.

Wynjammer, 6psi. No fmu, relies on a computer tune to add fuel. You would have to add an fmu, or additonal injectors or something to get more fuel into it if you plan on upping boost. I think this is the cheepest kit you can get. Looks to have an easy install.

As far as what has the best gains, well it all depends on who tunes it. The kits are designed with a stock vehicle in mind. Just bolting it on probably isn't going to give as good as results as bolting it on, and tuning it to the vehicle. The engine should also last longer with a proper tune.

Would a JET performance programmer do a good job with this special tuning?

No. A custom mail in tune, or even better a tune you did yourself, or a dyno did.

How much would a dyno tune cost, and where would you get it done? I am also looking into a s/c and I have no idea how I would go about doing tuning myself.

Re: Supercharger Thread

Dyno tunes usually run about $125 a hour, or about $500 flat.
