Supercharger.

I want to supercharge my 4.3, Wynjammer makes a complete bolt on kit for $2500. Anyone ever purchase one of these and is it worth the gains? The company also has a few other small billet intake pieces and a pretty cool pressure relief valve to go with the kit. Check it out at www.wynjammer.com

Re: Supercharger.

that's pretty cheap, it might not come with an intercooler and depending on where you live you have to have one. 6lbs of boost is pretty weak also

Re: Supercharger.

A few guys have had serious problems with them lately - 12sws27 can give you some good info on what's up. Al at Wynjammer still takes good care of his customers but there's definately something flawed with the headunits that are coming out now.

Re: Supercharger.

Mules right. I have had bearing issues. I just sent mine back for the 3rd time in 5 months. I only put maybe a mile every 2 days on my truck too. There's quite a few guys on this forum that have not had any problems so IDK what to think. Al seems to think alot of the problems or from people over tightening the belts. I tightened mine like the Instructions say but this time I leaving it as loose as I can get away with. right be for the point of slippage.

Re: Supercharger.

I have not had any trouble with mine and I am pushing more than most that I know of. Mine is a weekend ride only so I'm not putting on the miles either! I still believe that for up to10 psi the product is simple, efficient, cost effective and works with less heat rise than others!! Al will stand behind the product, not sure though if these issues are installation or manufacture related?

I bet that "weak" 6 lbs of boost is getting more performance out of the 4.3L than your built motor is.

There's no way the bearings should be that sensitive to belt tension. I could see excess tension causing premature wear 1000's of miles down the road but not the near-instantaneous failures that some have seen. Other guys aside from 12sws27 have had similar issues.

Power wise a 6 psi wynjammer gets you 210-220 rwhp from the dyno #'s posted around the forums.

Well that's not too bad considering stock is what, about 160 rwhp?

probably 160rwhp if you have a manual trans, I say less with an auto. More like 145-150 rwhp.

Well if that's the case, that means the might 4.3 is making between 10-12.5hp per lb of boost, give or take... That's respectable.

Thats my thought as well, there are kits out there that will give you more but that also means more heat! I would like to see this bearing thing get resolved though, I sent Al an e-mail as feedback.

Re: Supercharger.

I have an 03 and had a Powerdyne SC, good power increase but pain install, heavy unit and belt slippage alot. Switch to Wynjammer, easy install, light moderate power increase but have had bearings go out 3 times in a year but Al (owner) has GREAT service...As I use my truck as my daily driver and not for racing I'm happy with the switch, just got to deal with the bearings....

Just got off the phone with Al, he is always fun to talk to! He has been looking at different bearing compounds and found the one's in question were a tighter clearance with the same retainer. He now has an alternative made to his spec to solve the problem! As always, Al will change out any bearings with noise or clearance issues!! I wanted to find this out for myself as he upgraded my head unit last year, I also continue to support his product. Currently I have had no issues, hope this helps out. Les>>>

Re: Supercharger.

Al Martin is awesome! I just thought I'd share that. I try to be upset about my jammer problems sometimes, but I just cant get mad. A bit discouraged, but not pissed. I think as long as Al is around, he will always be trying to make something for us 4.3 s-series guys.

This is the first I've looked at the wynjammer website and am impressed with the prices and completeness of the kits! Damn, now I just need $2500!

Just an "ok" deal?! Please...

Take a look at kits for other vehicles. Some of those kits don't include brackets, some don't include the plumbing, most don't included a reprogrammed ECU, and most cost considerably more than $3k.

No, for a complete kit that installs in one afternoon, is complete and provides up to an extra 75hp for 2500 bucks, I say that's a pretty damn good deal.

And yes, I took full advantage of the smilies in this post... See...

Although Ive looked into the wynjammer, multiple times, Most seem to have great success. One of my friends has Al's kit on his truck, And has had it for 2 years of fail safe power...

Is it just me, or is that REALLY overdriven with that really small blower pulley? Plus there appears to be another overdrive pully assembly before that.

Re: Supercharger.

I wonder how he gets enough fuel to run 6# of boost? Does the kit have a booster pump? An FMU?

Re: Supercharger.

It's all in the tune they send with the kit, there's no FMU or anything like that. From what I've read around here, the stock fuelling is pegged at 6 psi and I'm guessing there's also timing taken out in that tune.

Re: Supercharger.

Blacksharpie was tuning his truck with a wideband and HP Tuners, NA. At a commanded 12.5:1 AFR he was seeing 102% IDC. Doesn't seem like there would be much room for boost with the stock injectors.

Re: Supercharger.

There is some timing removed. I dont have any pinging. Unless I get a bad tank of gas. Which I did a few weeks ago (stupid 10% ethanol crap!). I always use 93 octane.
I got my supercharger back a few weeks ago and it seems quieter than ever. no problems any more yet. I think the new bearings Al is using and did the trick. I also left my belt pretty loose. If it was any loser than I have it now, it would slip.
