Single VS. Twin Turbo's
On my carb'd 350.
I really like the idea of twin turbo's, but I want to conserve room and save on price more. I just got done reading the article on hotrodders.com posted in the V8 section and it's an awesome single turbo setup on a 350. http://hotrodders.com/projects/008/09.html Would I really see so much of a gain from a TT vs ST, What type of turbo's would you go with for either setup, I know most people will go with a smaller turbo and a larger turbo for a TT setup so that one will wind up faster and have less turbo lag while the other produces more boost. Would you just go with one larger turbo for a single turbo i'm guessing? I don't know my turbo's so names would be much appreciated. Also what all needs to be done to run turbo's on a carb setup. I'm still not sure that my carb'd 350 is there to stay, I'm trying to get ahold of a LT1/Ls1 to drop in, but it's not looking good so far. |

To start off you will need some type of hat or setup to fit on the carb to run boost.
As far as the size of turbo (for ST setup) I would say a T3/T4 with a .81 AR. Something that will spool quick since rpms matter. That size turbo would give you a descent curve and spool fast at the same time. If you would want something to spool faster then a little smaller turbo with ball bearings would help. Also to help with spool and effeciently would be the turbo manifold. Hope this helps a little. |

Most don't go with a sequential set up, most are the same on twins. Thats gonna be a lot harder to set up, and more expensive.
Any turbo set ups gonna be expensive, and unless you've got a stout bottom end, will be limited to boost and how much power your gonna make. I really woudlnt go through all the trouble of fabbing a turbo set up unless your going all out. IMO, if your just looking for like 500ish hp, spend like $600 on a nitrous plate set up and call it done. |

Nitrous is lame, I would want full all the time power, plus the nearest place I can get a bottle filled is three hours away. I'd like it if I were closer to a place to get a bottle filled. I wouldn't rely on it though.. A single turbo setup is really what I'm leaning towards..

A single T70 with a .81 hotside is enough to make 700 hp on a driveable 350 with good heads and a small cam. By small I mean a .050 duration of 220 or less. I'd ditch the carb personally, but if you wish to retain it, you'll need to call The Carb Shop to see what needs to be done to it.
