Re: s10ls's new turbo/mpfi/bowtie head project

I'd feel real sick if i was fixing to cut that nice expensive manifold in two. By the way does that leave any hood clearance? Thats pretty tall, anyway good luck on the cut and keep us updated.

Re: s10ls's new turbo/mpfi/bowtie head project

I bet it isn't much taller than the stock intake manifold/tb/intake hat. The tb/intake hat are probably a good 8" tall.

its where the TB would be right when the hood curves downwards to the grill that has me worried. i am really hoping to keep the stock hood

BTW mike (boosted thrills) says its shorter than his 2114/spacer/TB/carb hat, which is identical to mine other than the carb hat, i think mine is a little taller

If you get caught between a rock and a piece of nice sheet metal you can always do this http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/po...gle-turbo.html

Re: s10ls's new turbo/mpfi/bowtie head project

cool thread. i wouldnt want to weld the upper plenum to the lower manifold though. i would have the top of the lower manifold milled down as far is it could go

Re: s10ls's new turbo/mpfi/bowtie head project

my hat is real close to the hood (at least it was with the stock hood. but not with my cowl hood). the maf would have hit the hood. but i angled it down a little, so it cleared fine.

Re: s10ls's new turbo/mpfi/bowtie head project

someone suggested a wedge to point the TB down a little, thought that was a good idea if it came to that

on a side note i just cut 4 inches out of the middle of the manifold

pics coming shortly

the first rough cuts i made with a sawzall. as you can see its still about 3/4 of an inch to long. the rest will be milled off

Re: s10ls's new turbo/mpfi/bowtie head project

thoughts on teflon valve seals? seems like viton is the better choice, but teflon is the only thing i can get locally that fits what i machined my guides too (.530). what seals are the rest of you guys running?

also, got the HSR shortened to the proper length, looks like i'll be able to use 5 bolts on each side of the intake

the tops will be welded shut. i have to get a manifold gasket to see if the bottom will need to be welded also, prolly just put a plug in the injector bung

That does look awsome, but wow, after seeing all of the work, I am glad I didn't buy those set of bowtie heads when I had the chance. It would have never gotten finished.

Keep up the good work! That thing sick!

Do the bolt holes now line up, or do you have to machine a Z-shape between the 2 un-used intake runs?

Re: s10ls's new turbo/mpfi/bowtie head project

i think i have teflon seal, i'll check. no problems with them. but not many miles on em.

that intake is pretty cool. i should have done that, instead of the 2114. sometimes i don't think ahead enough..... 1 thing for sure. if you take it to a car show, there are going to be a LOT of people scratching their heads. 4 in, 3 out

no Z cuts, its getting welded up soon then i can cut up the upper plenum

What would be even better is if you put in and ran wires into the harness for a dummy injector instead of plugging the bungs........WTF!?!

no need to pull a cover, i have extras = bought the V8 set. they are the kind that ya install with a socket, 7/16 iirc.

the extra injector would be funny. maybe even run an extra plug wire.

"Yeah, its a v-8....the middle cylinders are smaller and siamesed, thats why there are only 6 header tubes."

wonder how many people you could get to fall for it.
