Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

before you send it back try grinding off one side of the bolt allowing it to seat against the downpipe..
just a thought...

Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

A dent would have to be put in the tube before it was welded if it had to be that close.

Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

A dent 4 that bolt head won't affect anything much.
A good bolt 2 use would b a 12 point that u grind the head down some on , but youd have to grind the wrench 2.

What clown built this thing & never tested it ???

Post Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

I didn't want to dent the pipe because that would probably scratch off the ceramic coating. I
shouldn't have to modify anything myself for what I paid for this kit. It should have been trial
fitted before being sent out. I sent back the pipe and hope it's corrected quickly so I can go
on with the install. This is just an oversight and I'm not blamming anybody.PEACE>Tony

I bought it used thru e-bay. Those new wires are the weather proof connectors. The fan came out of a 98 Camaro. Have to finish installing the relays, fuses, and the thermostat controller.
Thinking of getting a stand alone ECU from autronics. Check it out and tell me what you think.

The autronics unit is replacing my stock(ECU) computer not for the fans.

I have the rest of the tubing and a complete 3" ss cat back system. Waiting on the intake manifold that Sam(gotswrv) is putting together for me. Also I have a buddy here in Puerto
Rico who is hooking me up with the distributor for Autronics and getting me the SMC ecu
on a loaner basis to be installed on my truck to promote the product line here. Things are
starting to take off all of a sudden. Wow! I'm stoked. PEACE>Tony

Question for ya, is the tubing SS or mild steel, and how thick is it? Also, is there a flex link in the cross over, kind of hart to tell in the pics. Looks a lot like how I built my headers.

The tubing is mild steel with a 2000 degree coating.Don't remember the thickness. The crossover pipe is a two piece with a slip fit. I applied copper gasket sealant at the slip joint
according to the instructions. I'll be posting some new pics soon, Just waiting for parts that
I ordered. I'm leaving for Florida next week so the project will be on hold for a while till I get
back. Gonna use 75lb/hr injectors with Sam,s (gotswrv) modified vortec intake along with a autronic stand alone ecu. Should make over 500 rwhp.PEACE>Tony

Well you can get more info on the ecu from www.autronic.com. They have two models(SMC,SM2). Sam(gotswrv) took a stock lower intake manifold and milled the injector
bosses to accept domestic size injectors. I'm going with 75lb/hr ones. The distributor
for the ecu here in Puerto Rico is looking to promote the product and he's gonna use
my project for that pupose. They will install and tune it. Just takes time to organize things.

are you planning to keep the stock computer for the guages and what not ? would one need to buy any new sensors with the new ecu ? I m interested as well to see how things go for you.

I have to get together with the guy who's gonna do the install of the ecu and learn if I need to get
rid of my stock computer or run it piggyback. I don't have any working knowledge of the autronic
ecu. Snaped some new pics of the upgraded injectors and the downpipe covered in the exhaust
wrap. What do think? PEACE>Tony

Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

The autotronic ecu should work with your exisiting sensors, if they have a way to run piggy back you're set.

I'm hoping LS1 edit will be out in time for when I have my manifold ready. I've emailed them about the rumor - we'll see if they get back to me.

Sam sent me some info on converting the stock manifold to inidividual injectors. Without whoring too much here is basicly what he's done.

"I decided to use the retro upgrade spider, then cut off the lines and use 3/16 fuel line to a vette style injector. The line ties into a small cap that is retained by the factory clip (MSD carries). And I turned a little button cap thing to replace the FPR on the spider(allow lower than stock FP)."

Looks great Tony. Very clean.

Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

I forgot to mention or take pics. I set the injector height to the runner at flush on the longest, deepest point. I think the reasoning for the factory design was to offset the poor atomization of the dripping poppet valve tube. I still might need to hog out the runner to clear the spray pattern.?. I did tap for a pressure signal line. Forgot to mention that also. One might consider running a large feed to the FMU to provide quicker reaction. I still need to epoxy the egr system shut as the relief pocketing for the injectors broke into the egr galleys above the runners.

s10rz350, if you want to host some pics I have some I can sent you.

sy-clone, I think you can tune to pass the sniffer if you can tune while they sniff... Between the turbo robbing some heat and the cam/heads it may be rough though.

LS1 edit for the masses is gonna rule!!!

btw Sam is the one to give all the credit too.
All I've done is buy a manifold and stare at it.
I will continue to update my page and press gotswrv (sam) for as much info as possible so anyone who wants to upgrade theirs can.

Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

Okay, I'm a JACKASS. I didn't save the sent e-mail, your e-mail to me, pm, or address... Could you PM it again?

I think I could delete a few of the one off parts, if I do a better job looking at the MSD line of parts. I'm gonna check it out. Might have good stuff else where too!!! Anyone know a good url for finding MPFI conversion and adaptation parts? My goal for this project is to keep the custom work as small as possible. Hopefully just the mill work on the manifold. Source the rest, too make it possible for others to easily follow.

Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

I ended up buying the over priced MSD 90° fittings. Then I had to releive the inside so the injector could go in far enough to get the clip on. Then sand out the slot for the clip on more than half of the MSD parts to allow the clip to fit in the little slit. BU((SH!% !!! All because I can't seem to find 90° 3/16 hose barbs.?. Who knew. The MSD units do take up a little less height. And offer an alternative way to hold the injectors in the runners.

The injectors appear to be captured in there holes buy the upper. But I thnk premature failure is certian if they are left to rattle. One bank's hole weren't lined up the same as the others. This left a little of the origanial hole on the side of the new holes. It should hurt to have a leak from the plenuim to the runner, but the injector O-ring isn't a good fit for eliminating vibration anymore. I'm still looking for the easiest way to secure the injector down.

I took out the FPR and its straw to the return line. Still debating if the straw should go back in. The FPR elimanator fits nicely.

Found that the fuel lines can go anywhere. The fuel is completely common. This allowed for the lines to be used on oppsite banks, out of order, etc. to help keep them from kinking. i should remember to take a pic of the inside of the spider.

I don't know if the plastic covering, that came over the stock fuel lines and wiring, is a heat shrink or a friction proof material. I got it hot ,and it got soft and bendable, but didn't shrink, and held onto the heat quite well. Possibly a sort of insulator. It doesn't fit over the hose, but it's staying on the wiring. Going to look at the hose rating again to make sure it won't melt.

Still need to plug off the EGR ports. I left them open to try and get a better pic of how far in I cut.

I forgot to get a pic from in the runners, to show where the injector sets there. Damn.

I don't think this should be an considered an option unless you have very picky inspectors where you live. Just doesn't offer enough airflow. Converting the Edelbrock manifold looks like it will be slightly more work. It also looks like it will flow alot more air.

Later,
Sam

Thanks bro! Been a little slow getting back to work on the "Turbonoma" but I got some things done
today. I've added a turbo insulation kit, new braided oil drain line which substituted a rubber one.
I also installed the alternator and added new spark pug wires. Maybe I will be able to drop the
engine this week or next. Check out the pics. PEACE>Tony

I guess I'm dence, but i just don't get putting on all that heat containment stuff. The metal gets hot enough to glow anyway. Why bake it even more??

It's suppose to reduce turbo lag and keep unwanted heat away from other components.
PEACE>Tony P.S. tropical storm Jeanne finally has arrived 60 mph winds

I hear ya there. I just don't like the idea of keeping all that heat contained in there. On my sy with it's 3000 conv. there's really no lag. & i put some contured laminated alum. over the top of my turbo to shield the other stuff. It's loose so it still lets air circulate around the turbo.

Re: Project "TURBONOMA" begins

Well the storm went by rather weak(70 mph winds) with most of the damage done by heavy
rain and flooding . I had a tree topple over on my other house. Luckily it didn't hit the house or
the fence. Hey dave you do anything with the ramjet manifold? I'm finaly gonna drop the engine
in this week. I hate looking at it on the engine stand. My buddy came thru for me with the stand
alone ecu(autronics)unit. Sam(gotswrv) almost has the upgraded intake(24lbs. injectors) done.
I'll have pics asap of the engine going in the truck. Wish me luck. PEACE>Tony

Kinda, I'm about to buy the injectors & go searching for a harness & thank's to Charlie I've got some sample sensors to use for fitting into it.
