My 4.3 Turbo Build

Well I've been collecting parts over the past month and a half or so. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm planning on just running stock injectors on 6-8 psi for a bit, then either buying a marine intake or a 2114 and making it work. Pics will talk mostly with this build, and im planning on making my manifolds out of schedule 10 stainless.

what my truck looked like last summer

two weeks ago i dug it out and started working on it a few days ago

what it looks like now

I made the wastegate flanges and downpipe flange but still have to make the turbo flange, and I also have a wastegate just forgot to take pictures hah.

Any input will be apprecitaed.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

Almost done my manifold, finding time to work on it is hard between gong to school and working 4 or more days a week but its coming along.

Ran into some clearance problems with the passenger side but made part of it over and now it shoul work. Going to have to do some serious re-wiring and brake work but it should be alright.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

Looks real good! Will you be able to get the steering column in once the headers bolted up? When I built my headers I had read alot about people having problems with the pipes heating up and the expansion cracking the crossover trying to push the two headers apart. For this reason I built an expansion pipe in to my crossover. There's pics of my setup in the link in my sig. Just something to think about. Also I was very worried about fitting all the pipes around everything in the engine compartment and forgot about spark plugs and wires. Make sure you have some clearance for your wires. With turbos they burn easy. I had to go back and create additional clearance the hard way, after the fact. I also went with some plug wires from a 98 vortec v8 so that all the plug boots were 90's. Hopefully this helps you prevent some of the problems that I encountered. The pipes really look great. It's gonna be a real nice setup. I'm subscribed. Keep us posted and take lots of pics.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

thanks for all the good advice, there should be enough room for the plugs and it should go be able to be installed over the steering shaft once its done. I'm gonna put a flex pipe now (thanks) and i'm going to either make or buy some flanges to take the cross over apart.

I got my intercooler mounted after cutting some rad support apart and it just barely fits, also put some tow hooks on it.

Hi, by chance would you be willing to make a set of exhaust manifolds exactly like yours and sell them? If so for what price? If so you can reach me @ jschech2000@yahoo.com

You might look into buying some used SyTY manifolds.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

got some new parts, but still waiting on welding stuff so can't finish the manifolds right yet. Got two sets of cab corners (both my trucks need them ) and got some of the last turbo parts. Also got my firewall painted and the inside of my fenders

forgot to post how tight the intercooler was hah.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

This thing is going to be a BEAST!

The tubes right before before the collector look like they are pretty close...

How do you weld in such tight spots without welding the two tubes together on accident?

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

looks awesome man. and holy crap what a ton of snow!! my only question is about the cross over pipe goin right infront of the pulleys. are you going to put a flange in there some where so you can just un bolt the cross over if you need to change you ps pump or anything? trucks like this make me want a reg cab s10. the power to weight is gonna be awesome. my blazer is just alittle bit to heavy. sweet truck!

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

Got my manifold all welded up, put a shift kit in my tranny, put my engine back in, put an oil return in my pan and set up the oil feed, got some traction bars, and got my intecooler piping mocked up. Going to get rid of the MAF and put my bov in when i go to get it tuned. So it's coming along decent for now.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

How much boost are you planning on running?? Cause that stock intake bonnet will only hold about 5psi before it blows off. You might want to mock up some more piping from the MAF to the TB and find a way to secure it to the TB so it doesn't blow off.

Hopefully you guys can see the videos, running on 6psi right now, had a lot of problems with it and still not driving it full time yet, but it's really fun and gets a lot of looks from people driving by hah

Quoted for truth. I applaud the build but cringe at stock fuel setup. Yikes.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

Running without the MAF? Then it leaves it all to the 1bar MAP and you are right. As soon as it's in boost, it's lost. A speed density tune will help but you will need to replace the MAP.

I still cringe at stock injectors with boost. My 42# ones are taxed at 10#'s.

Re: My 4.3 Turbo Build

i'm still running the maf, once its tuned ill have to get another map sensor, I'll eventually get real injectors for it too, just wanna get all the little kinks worked out of it first.

I bought it from sytyperfomance, it was... 1600 to my door, i think it was 800 for the intake alone, shipping really killed me. But i needed injectors and i wanted to do it right
