high mileage plus boost?

well i have a 96 GMC jimmy 2wd 4dr, thinking about putting a turbo on it, only reason im kinda leary is it has just over 200K miles, but runs like it has 100k, doesn't burn oil, doesn't overheat, runs amazing. think i could get away with maybe 6-8psi with a front mount intercooler?...i havent really looked into what turbo to use or anything, but i was thinking maybe a HX35 holset, it would also be a rear mount, back where the muffler is/was. should i remove the cat or leave it? maybe put the turbo in place of the cat?...can i use a FMU for this low boost?...i plan on buying a wideband, whether it be a LC-1 or AEM Uego, what ratio FMU would be ideal? truthfully, id be happy going mid-high 13s, but low 14s would probably be alright

i do have experience with turbos but in the v8 world, but not fuel injection

200k? Rebuild it.

You could always run an oil anaysis, compression test, and cyl leak down test to check the motor. I would do at least that before attempting anything with 200k on the clock. 4.3 is a great motor (when you have the fuel!) but 200k is a butt ton of miles...

About nothing. It's not really worth the money to mod a 4.3 unless you're going internal.

I say go for it with the boost. I've heard some say that since the engine is older, it's "looser" and stays together with boost. The biggest thing I'd worry about would be the drivetrain.

But as I've learned over the past 3 trannies, 3 rear ends, and 1 motor... if you can afford to make it go fast you need to be able to afford to fix it. So **** it, go for it.

If you are for sure not going over 6 PSI ? The Wynjammer if the best bang for buck? You can get a reflashed VCM with the Jammer or tune it your self with Jet DST software. You also will need logging software and/or at least a wideband to tune it or have it done and hope for the best! You have just enough fuel for 6 psi but I changed my fuel pump at 65,000 K to be certain. If you can keep your AFR at 12.5 over 4 psi, you can then pull out some timing and make due without an intercooler as the Jammer has less heat rise. Your drive train will wear out sooner, this is only if you stay under 6 psi!
