I also have the T70, but I was going to run a 10 PSI spring and 15 PSI on the boost controller.

What wastegate were you using? I hope I don't run into that with the 38mm turbonetics I have.

Re: Built 4.3 turbo underway Pics will talk

In response to the dilemma i believe you guys are right, 10psi on a open downpipe was too much for the wastegate. 10psi on a fully muffled motor it could handle but i guess i was right on the threshold. Would explain how i put a buslength on that new c6.

Well i took the mani off today. Cracked entire top plastic manifold. Ripped 1 fuel injector out and the rest of spider assembly was laying on top of my manifold. Ummm one comment, Earlier in the build i had a real tough time sealing the intake manifold, it would leak from the front and back. So after 3 different sealants, some1 recommended the GM stuff. After sanding the block and manifold and after 6months i went to take the manifold off and i couldn't. It was sealed so well i had to remove my hood and chain it to my hoist, lifted the truck 2 inches then i had to jump on my bumper to get her to pop off. WOW. I've never witnessed a tube of rubber do that.

So i began work on the new manifold. Rough porting to smooth the castings down and some polishing work. Depending on the gasket will determine whether gasket matching is necessary.

very little is worth saving off the old manifold and my 97 lower manifold is slightly different and dirtier so i will work will the fresh manifold.

I have to get more abrasives from my job and then i will be good to clean and start assembling

What exactly is the "GM stuff" that you glued the manifold down with?

Re: Built 4.3 turbo underway Pics will talk

I'm not sure, but he should have coated the manifold with it.

I always use the Permatex "Right Stuff" black RTV for the lower intake manifold. It handles not letting it dry completely before using better than anything else I have found.

Do you remember what size clamp the T70 used for the v-band?

All he did was swap in a nv3500 trans. That's where the shifter sits in any stock 98+ truck with a new venture transmission

Re: Built 4.3 turbo underway Pics will talk

If i was to keep the shifter for the 97 and put it on the 2000 tranny, yes it would be uncomfortable.

The 96-97 shifter is slanted back at a 45 degree angle
the 98 is much closer to straight up and is way more comfortable to drive because u are shifting above the tranny.

oh i completely must have missed a section, i thought you were swapping in a T56 trans. Interesting info though. I didn't realize the difference in the years.

Re: Built 4.3 turbo underway Pics will talk

yea if cost wasn't an issue and sheet metal or 2114 would be in the mail.

So i got to tickering with it again on my 1 day off a week.

Problems since manifold swap:

Blown fuse, then cam correlation (dizzy skipped a gear), then after that i was running on 4 cylinders. Scanner read 1 and 6 were my culprits. #6 had a boot that was loose and #1 ???????

#1 tested for spark and wow did that hurt when i let go.
120psi in cylinder
.......fuel nowhere to be found.

So the used mani setup has a stuck injector. Probably just get new MPFI injectors for 200

Re: Built 4.3 turbo underway Pics will talk

Theres been lotsa progress ive just been slacking, senior year in college and my daily driver blew a timing belt which turned it into a junk car. So i've been the 400hp truck everyday for the last 2 months and man what a change. I bought a seat of corbeau race seats that wont be going in now that i drive it everyday (really stiff and uncomfortable). I took off the carbon fiber hood in exhange for the stock one, to deter attention with cops and so my 400 dollar hood stays nice. I've been running 87 octane and using it for a work truck doing side jobs. just working when i want or need and having fun my senior year.

I haven't done anything serious because i've been gearing up for the ford 8.8 swap which i have 98 percent of the parts ready to go. I have power, i weigh nothing, i need traction and gears

Ford 8.8, rebuilt with ford motorsports rear, $600 + $250 for the rear.
Caltracs and u bolts $360
Rear drag shocks $50
1" drop blocks $40
Slicks and skinnies$300 with no rear tires

So i need to finish two jobsites and then i can take the couple days and do the rear end, put on the step shavers and take her to shows and the dragstrip. and then i can die happy

although side note, i did run into a brand new z06 and while it beat me, i was impressed that i gave it a good run. Even got a wave and a thumbs up. I ran the zo6 with the straight dump which really feels like 40whp+ and spools 600rpm sooner. I ran a Audi R8 while i had my car and muffler on and i put a car on him from 40-110, guy waved me to pull over and bs'ed for awile and man was that a sweet ride, rear engine and a gorgeous interior with paddle shifters, lol made my nite.

I have a thread in trans and rearend section with all the pics of the 8.8

Ford 8.8 swap, cost close to 2k, stock 3.55 gears w/ new Ford motorsports cobra limited slip

here are some pics of how it sits.

I still need to purchase slicks and relearn how to drive it/launch it off the 2 step

yea, i wound up cutting the stock ford 8.8 sway bar mounts off the axle for weight and more room, then using 3.5" exhaust clamps and widened the stock sway bar plates to fit the increase in tube diamete. Its not flawless but it worked great.

I checked out manual boxes that will bolt in and it would be nice to get rid of power steering but i'm concerned about regretting it, i'm a strong guy but jus haven't heard anybody say they had manual steering idk how it will be.

I emailed RPM about their steering column and waiting for a response

manual steering... its all about the gas pedal.. the faster you go the easier it is to turn ... anyways i have a manual box in my sonoma with airride and an lt4 its not bad at all and im sporting a v8 so the stock 4.3 should b a breeze

Re: Built 4.3 turbo underway Pics will talk

good news, its been running great and its been my daily for the entire summer with the truck almost finished, new rearend and bumpers. So lately i've really been enjoying it and finally got the oppurtunity for a track rental.

November 9th at ATCO in New Jersey with svtsnake.com. Its a local mustang speed forum so i bought in a slip to represent the gm guys and more importantly get a good track day. Only 15 cars allowed so i'm gonna get a chance for a good amount of runs, allowing me to warm up to trying for 11's.
If any guys on the board wanna come out that day its an open invite for spectators since we rented the track.

Its pretty much there, just have some finishing touches on the dyno and final weight reduction and prep.

skinnies and draglites with new 275 60 15 MT et streets.

its been a long time coming and i'm hoping the weather is perfect

After 3 days and about 35 hours the truck is tucked away in a borrowed race trailer ready to head to the track.

4hrs on the dyno resulted in :-) :

404rwhp 490lb torque at 12.5psi with no air filter, and open downpipe. 21 degrees of max timing. (dynojet calibration 1.15)

we leave tmr at 5:30am for ATCO in jersey

i'll post up the results tmr

Re: Built 4.3 turbo underway Pics will talk

So it was a gorgeous day, about 25 runs over 8 hours and we didnt break the truck :-).

12.13 @ 113mph was the best slip of the day with a 1.68 60ft

second best was 12.16@115mph

the morning we spent getting me comfortable and towards the afternoon we were hard pressed to get that 11sec slip. We didn't get there but the best 60ft was 1.66 launched at 5psi off the 2step at 4500rpm

Once we started getting dialed in the track starting slowing down, early in the day 11's looked easy to grab and as the hours pressed on it began to get out of reach. The motor richened up which i think started killing my top end. Well great experience and a fun day for my first time at the track.

we have lots of footage but the only one i have to show is the go pro view which is uploaded to youtube. the rest is 28min and needs to be edited

I enjoyed the vids! 12 sec. really goes by in a hurry!
