bad news... good news (turbo Build)
ok. hopefully this will clear up a few things. like why i have been asking so many questions and why some of them may have been a bit wired.
i got in an accident. 3 car pile up on the highway on the way to my parents house about a month ago. i got rear ended and pushed into the car in front. and i have been fighting with the insurance company for the past month to get a reasonable settlement out of it. well after all the back and forth they eventually totaled my blazer. thats the bad news. The good news is that i should be able to fix all of the damage. (all body work except for the front core support). i trust me i have been all over it looking for anything else. and i should be able to fix it with enough money left over to turbo my truck. VERY good news. so here is a list of the stuff i got lined up so far. i have been planning this for ... well a long time. i keep pretty meticulous (read: anal) records. so i got the costs pretty well figured out. if you have any suggestions or see something i missed please let me know. (DONT SAY STUPID SH*T LIKE GET A V8). that said i would love your input. heres the list. 2114 fuel rails tb adapter fuel injectors 42lb/hr turbonetics turbo masterpower turbo Jet DST intercooler AEM UEGO wideband o2 AEM TRU boost controller fuel pump (granatelli) cartech fmu Turbonetics wastegate blow off t3 inlet flange air filter Oil complete kit |

Re: bad news ... Good news
also i am trying to figure out how i want to do the exhaust. i might copy meyers and just use the stock manifolds and weld some pipes on. or i might get some syty manifolds if i can find/afford them. i am also trying to see about a syty intake manifold. hopefully i can get one of those because the 2114 all said and done is over $1000 and i dont have that kind of money in the budget.

Re: bad news ... Good news
Do an 01 ecm swap, get hptuners instead, you dont need an fmu if your gonna use a 2114 and a nice intake pump like a walbro
97 is just a rough year for tuning, the 01 swap isnt all that difficult....on paper at least between a 98 and 01.......but i dont know the differences between 97 and 98 |

Re: bad news ... Good news
well zygoat after all the hurdles i'm having with my manifolds idk if the sytys would of been better.
Top three concerns are steering shaft clearance, motor mounts (considering i melted one already) and the tight crossover. Its doable but with hurdles i'm glad i'm done with mine |

Re: bad news ... Good news
i got the fuel pump spec'd out. and i know i dont need the fmu with the 2114 i just copy . pasted that from the spread sheet i have, and i have them both so i can calculate the cost a bunch of different ways. does anybody know where i can get the syty intake manifold? i think that might be a better solution to the intake (ie less $$$). what about the map sensor is the stocker good to 10 psi. i believe it craps out a 14 am i right? |

Re: bad news ... Good news
well got the ball rolling today. i ordered some of the exhaust components. i got the flowmaster 50 series suv. and a tubing kit and some turn downs. the tale pipe got a jacked up in the wreck + you got to have a good muffler and cat back if your gonna turbo ... right?
its gonna be a dual out. i know it will be tight but i think i can make it work. i will hopefully do it this weekend, provided that the parts get here by fri. ordered Monday night so fingers crossed. if i do ill post up in the exhaust section and you all can check out my handy work.![]() |

Re: bad news ... Good news
May I suggest a Tial waste gate, http://www.tialsport.com/prod_wg_38.htm
One of the more important things on a turbo application and these are considered to be the best on the market by most. |

Re: bad news ... Good news
by the time you buy a syty upper and lower intake manifold, and pay for it to be modded to fit vortec heads, and pay to have a set of vortec heads redrilled, you will probably have more into the setup then a 2114. atleast a 2114 you can use your stock TB and it keeps it close to the stock location which means less stuff will have to be changed
or you could just use the older style heads, which i wouldnt recommend |

Re: bad news ... Good news
yea im not totally sure what i am gonna do as far as the intake goes yet. i don't really like the fmu idea. i am pretty sure that over time my spider is going to blow up. but the 2114 is pretty dam expensive. i would like to do it i just don't know if i can afford it. if only we didn't have popets...

Re: bad news ... Good news
![]() the front. my girl friend said that it was pretty funny that i fixed it with tape so the body lines match up better than alot of ppls cars normally do. (had to tape it to keep it from rubbing in my wheel.) rear. ![]() the police report labels the damage from 1 to 3(worst) mine was all 1's the guy that hit me almost all 3's (scion tc) and the person i was pushed into had some 2's (vw jetta) Gotta love the good old American iron. |

Re: bad news ... Good news
what do you think of the rear window trim. i just painted it a few months ago. and the passenger side door like 6 months ago. (some one tried to brake into it, when the previous guy owned it.) they took a screw driver to the door handle. so i did some body work and fixed it all up then painted her.

Re: bad news ... Good news
It could have been a hole lot worse. Glad to see you are doing OK. Good luck on the turbo project. The money adds up fast, that's why I have been piecing mine together for over a year, hopefully next fall, mine will be up and running too.
I got a AEM UEGO, Tru-Boost, Greddy fuel pressure gauge, and a GlowShift Pyrometer. I was going to go with the Greddy boost gauge, but having the controller built in is a huge bonus, and everyone seemed to think it was a decent controller for the money. If you are using the MAF sensor, I thought you could use the original MAP sensor. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am probably going to go with the 2 bar map speed density, which doesn't use the MAF. You might also consider going with an extra injector controller. |

Ebay. I called glow shift direct, and they sent me the pyrometer for 49, the pod for 29, and 29 for shipping.

Re: bad news ... Good news
the pyrometer is not going to be needed. all you need is boost and wideband airfuel. pyrometers used to be popular before widebands were affordable, now they are essentially useless to the average joe who isnt tuning his engine to the absolute max.. and they are worth even less when you only have one... cars being put thru advanced tuning will have one on every cylinder.
if your on a budget, i wouldnt even bother with a boost controller, just get a wastegate spring for the intended level of boost, and then you dont have to fight the temptation to constantly turn it up just a little bit. SyTy exhaust manifolds are definatly your solution, you can get them for 175-250. for anything custom at all you will break that $$$$ wise. SyTy intake manifold setup will cost you a grand said and done. the link to the edelbrock pump on summit that you listed is a walbro. walbro and bosch are pretty much the only manufacturers of OEM fuel pumps, and that particular one that edelbrock is branding is a walbro. |

Re: bad news ... Good news
ok Little update. i got all the new body pieces i needed to fix the parts that got jacked in the wreck. i bought them from (scary voice)
ebay..... . they were actually pretty dam good quality. i was surprised. i bought them because they were cheep like VERY cheep. and i needed the money i could save for the turbo stuff. ne way here are a couple of pics.this is how the grill looked when i got it. ![]() after 3 hours of cleaning up all of the edges and casting marks. ![]() this was the worst damage to the grill when it arrived. not terrible really. ![]() here is a profile of the grill. ![]() (dont mind all the planes in the background.) another one of the hobbies that sucks you dry. here is the biggest blemish on the hood when i got it. ![]() i sanded it down with 1000 grit and all is well now. it needed a little bit of body work on the edges and corners but that was all. shoot of the whole hood ![]() (the guy in the back ground is my pop!) and the car is my moms, that thing handles better than my carmaro did hands down! so basically i prepped the hood, grill, rear bumper end (which was the only piece that was plastic that wasn't originally) i would have preferred metal, but it is cast pretty well. and they use metal reinforcement at all of the mounting points. here is the real story. all the parts i ordered. hood grill front bumper end rear bumper end rear bumper core support i got all of that shipped to my door for $350! pretty dam good deal i think. and for the price the quality was pretty good. the company was car parts wholesaler. so if you need some cheep parts check them out. especially if you need alot because they combine shipping. |
