almost time to install the procharger

well school is done for the summer and i am heading home. So i'm finaly going to get to start working on the tuck. Now i have been reading a lot on here on how the shorty headers really don't do anything. So heres my question is their any value in using them with my s/c set up or would i be fine with just using a larger y pipe. Oh and i'm gonna be running 10psi on a mach procharger kit

Re: almost time to install the procharger

They are slightly better than manifolds but as you said the Y-Pipe is the big squeeze on these engines rather your supercharging or not... But the manifolds are good to like 400hp or something

Re: almost time to install the procharger

Do you already have the headers on the truck? They'll probably make a proportionally bigger difference on a blown engine then a N/A so I'd use them if you have them. Ditch the underdrive pullies and TB spacer though.

Can't wait to see how this build turns out!

Re: almost time to install the procharger

no i didn't get the headers yet so i think i'm just going to go with the bigger y pipe for now save some money i can put to better use. I'm leaving for home tomorrow so hopfully i can start up a project thread next week.

Re: almost time to install the procharger

check the exhaust forum - there's a Y-pipe group buy in the works right now. there's been a few bugs with it but they should be worked out shortly.

to be honest, i have two local fabrication shops that would do the same y pipe for 300.

Re: almost time to install the procharger

I thought I did mine to .036 or .040 with a totally stock ignition but I can't remember now. It's definately a larger gap then meyers is running but I'm not putting down nearly that much power.

That's the plugs that I have. They're TR55IX Iridium plugs (7164 is a catalog # or something). I think that most of the boosted crowd runs NGK TR6 plugs

Yeah, those should be close. Just keep your foot out of it until you find out if they are cold enough like the TR6s. You don't want to get into detonation because of too hot of a plug.

Re: almost time to install the procharger

that charger system looks good. i think its crazy that the intercooler faces the ground with a scoop into the engine bay. would it help to have a motorcycle puller fan on there? my yamaha fans worked really well and were really small? just a thought...good luck with the project!

Re: almost time to install the procharger

ati never made a kit for any 4.3 this kit was made by mach performance using a procharger head unit i got this one off of ebay i'm not shure if mach even makes them anymore, but really the only thing that had to be made was the mounting bracket

Re: almost time to install the procharger

Looks awesome, I'm jealous! I love the blade of death on the low-mount intercooler, alot of the syclone/typhoon guys run setups like that. Can't wait to hear how it runs.

Re: almost time to install the procharger

i got all the piping done today. I got another quick question i need to remove my underdrive pulley to re install the stock crank pulley. but even using a belt wrench to hold it. it still turns when i try to break the bolts loose. Is their a tool i need to het to hold it in place?

Re: almost time to install the procharger

An impact wrench will do the job the best. If you don't have one, the only other way is to use a pry bar or tire wrench on the teeth of the starter gears on the flywheel. Wedge the pry bar in the teeth to hold the flywheel stationary while turning the bolts. Awkward, but it works.

Re: almost time to install the procharger

i think i have a idea i think i am going to leave the underdrive pulley on their just to get the truck going and see how it handles the boost then when i get the truck back in town i can take it back to the shop that put the pulley on and have them switch it
