4.3 boost?

Been checking out vids of syclones and was wondering if my 96 4.3 could be boosted on stock internals etc. Whats safe amount of boost to run on the stock 4.3. And is there any difference from the syclones and typhoons 4.3 compared to mine?

depends on what shape your motor is in and more imortantly how well it will be tuned. i run 25 psi on a bone stock balance shaft short block from my 94. i owuldnt recommend trying that just because i have done it with success. it took me a year and a half to work up to that boost level while slowly adjusting and tweaking my tune

the only difference is the syty engines have nodular iron main caps and lower compression pistons, thats it. the heads are the same shitty ones found on your normal 91 4.3 s10

Re: 4.3 boost?

have you run your truck at the track? and wat kind of funds are wrapped into your project? turbos are awesome but if i can get the same track times with a v8 for cheaper then i might go that route

Re: 4.3 boost?

Are you doing all of the work your self? New or used parts?

I will have about 3,000 into my project with mostly used parts. Paying someone else to do all of the work, you might as well buy a SY. I would expect around 10K, but your local shop could give you a better estimate.

Re: 4.3 boost?

i would do most of the work myself what i could. dont have much access to machines to bore and hone etc. I was thinking about building something pretty reliable yet hopefully running 11's in the 1/4 or little faster. Not a daily driver though just something to take to the track or cruise around town and make people think twice about an s10. V8 s10s are pretty commom bluid so 4.3 turbo would different and some people scrathing theirs heads when the lose to a v6. What are you doing about traction? Ladder bars? 4 link?

I would suggest searching this site....a lot. Find out everything you need to know about building/installing a turbo set up on these S-Trucks vs. a V8 swap. It's probably safe to say you'll spend twice as much on a very good turbo set up over a nicely done V8 swap.

Re: 4.3 boost?

might be a stupid ? but could you take a a turbo off a diesel truck or car and put it on the 4.3 with some fabrication. Or wat about a reliable turbo off of another car that comes factory like and sti or evo or speed6 etc?

Re: 4.3 boost?

The turbo needs to match the volume of air that the engine uses. Even the same diameter turbos have different pitch turbines to change the speed so the turbo you use will be very specific to your engine. There is more work than just slapping a turbo on. You need to work out how to run vacuum lines, get more fuel, tuning, temperature control, oil lines/return... etc...
