Re: will 97 4.3 heads and intake go on older block?

the heads themselves will swap to the older model, and since you're swapping the short block out basically and keeping your original heads, you can keep your intake as well.. however.. if it's a balance shaft and your truck was a non balanced shaft, then that could be a problem, I can't keep with with which and what yrs are balanced and what years aren't balanced, so I can't be much help there, but the heads will swap.

On a side note.. search is your friend that swap has been done many many many a times fyi.

yep 1992 up have balance shaft, my 91 doesnt and you can tell by the way it idles, feels more like an old v-8 at idle definitely different than a 92 up that were smooth quiet etc.

the heads will physically bolt up yes

Actually only blazers in 92 got them and even then GM put out 4.3Ls all the way to 95 without balance shafts.

Re: will 97 4.3 heads and intake go on older block?

92-95 was a mixed bag. Typically, the CPI engines
got them, but by 94-95 many TBI engines were
getting them as well.

91-older: no balance shafts
96-up: all had them

Some early non-BS TBI intakes wouldnt clear the BS,
But most, (or all) late TBI manifolds were redesigned
to clear the BS.

There are no clearance issues if the engine
Does not have a balance shaft.

And yes, any year heads will bolt to any year block.
Intake manifold will depend on wether heads are
Pre or post 1996 though, and the above mentioned
BS clearance issues...
