Truck acting goofy

Basically, my dad ripped the y pipe pretty bad about a year and a half ago. It was totally broke in half and crushed, so a month or 2 back my friends dads friend welded it up, but theres still a little hole. Lately its been seeming to take longer to start up. I might have to crank it for 2-3 secs, when it used to be instant. Also, when I floor it, its gets a wierd hesitation. It sounds like the rpm's kind of drop for a sec then really high, then go to normal, they basically kind of fluctuate. Its not really bad, but it sounds like ass. You think it might be some kind of O2 problem? I plan on a new y pipe. And also my trannys going too, bangs into gear after exactly a half hour of driving. And a few times it went into neutral when I put it in reverse. My trucks getting old, id appreciate the help.

Re: Truck acting goofy

if you had been driving it with a substantial exhaust leak for a long time, you may have burnt a valve..... another possibility is the exhaust leak may be oxygenating the readings of an 02 sensor, causing a rich mixture..... these arent terribly likely, but according to the info i got, these are my ideas, considering that you mentioned the leak

Thank you kind sir. Im only 16 so im not sure how much damage a burnt valve would do but it seems to run pretty damn good once its started and im not flooring it.

Re: Truck acting goofy

Your engine could be running rich from the leak and fouling up the plugs, I would start with plugs cap and rotor as a likely culprit. Get a new Y-Pipe made, most muffler shops could bent and weld a new one for you.

It all depends on where your located, not all exhaust shops are the same, depends what type of pipe they use and how long it takes them, call around your town for different quotes and ask what type of material the pipe is.
