This must be a joke ? Firing order...

Found this on another forum site :

CAB
6-5
4-1
2-3
GRILL

Is this in reference to the cap or the engine?

The engine goes:

CAB
6-5
4-3
2-1
GRILL

Right?

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

Firing on a 4.3 is 1-6-5-4-3-2 if I'm not mistaken.

Doesn't matter where they go on the cap as long as they are in that order.

Actually it does matter where they go on the cap. The cap is labeled to help you out

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

Actually, it depends on which engine it has in it... And, no, it doesn't really matter where they go. It'll still run fine if they're in the correct order. I moved mine around so it would make routing them easier.

I must be absolutely honest, i didn't understand that at all.

Move them around? doesn't really matter where they go on the cap?

I made a search on this because I'm wondering if I mixed up number 1 and 3 when I put it back together after the LIM gasket change.

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

It matters what order they go in, just not where they are on the cap. I'm assuming you have the crab style cap with the posts on the sides. They should all be labeled on the cap.

yes and yes. but in the first post. it's the last one that is correct in reference to where the wires go on the engine right?

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

if you set the motor on top dead then just drop the distributor in where the rotor is pointing you could use as number one. it dont matter where the wires are as long as the rotor points at number one wire when on top dead because it will still fire the right. i have done this in the past and if you think about it you will see what im talking about

It most certainly matters where they go on the cap on the vortec motors.

Hmm... tell that to the engine in my Blazer...

The only one you can't move is the coil wire...

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

The plugs on the cap are not in firing order. They are set up so wires don't have to cross over the cap to go to the Correct plug

Right?
the top figure is correct for 96-later dist. caps.

the bottom figure is the correct cylinder numbering
for the engine itself, for all years of 4.3's.

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

95-older, are vertical terminal, and not arranged
"side-to-side" like the late models.
they just start where ever #1 is/was, and go clockwise
from there, following the firing order. 1-6-5-4-3-2...

Since the cam sensor in the distrubuter has to be synced with the rotor and cam timing, you're a moron if you think it doesn't mater where the wires go on the cap. It might run but not correctly and I doubt if it will run at all.

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

The cap I have is aftermarket... The posts are not labeled on mine. Idk why... It came from Accel that way... I can move the wires wherever I want on the cap and it runs fine... as long as they're in correct firing order...

Anyways, that doesn't matter...

To the OP, I hope your questions have been answered and I apologize for the slight thread-jacking...

You guys can think what you want... I really don't care. There is no point in starting an argument over it. And if you're gonna call someone a moron, learn how to spell it first, @$$hole!

Re: This must be a joke ? Firing order...

does your aftermarket cap look like the stock cap or do you have an old style cap where the plugs point straight up and down?

It's the crab style cap. I have never seen one like it. I'd show you a pic of it if I were home. I'm on deployment now... It's made a little different than the Vortec cap. Looks almost just like it, but it's almost smooth on top.

i'm sure the order of the terminals is the same as stock.
the question is why would you even want to alter the
wires from their original positions, since some of the wires
would have to cross over to the far side of the cap???
kinda deafeats the purpose of the "crab" style cap,
doesnt it?

and you would likely have to have some kind of
"universal fit" wires to achieve this....
i dont think stock or stock replacements would have
enough lenght to achieve this.
