New Rad... Coolant?

Hey,
I am putting a new rad in on the weekend and am just wondering if I should get rid of the DEX cool antifreeze. If so what should I replace it with, and what brand would you suggest? For some reason I cannot search it. Everytime I do I get "page cannot be displayed". Probably cause I am at work.
Anyways thanks

yeah do not use dexcool.
Get the green stuff it never fails.
i've used it in my 93 ever since it was brand new and i've never developed any leaks.

Dexcool has been known to eat away at plastic gaskets in GM cars.

Make sure to flush the block first so that you get rid of all the Dexcool crap.

Don't use the green stuff. You still have to flush it once a year.

Get Peak Global Lifetime. Put it in and forget it.

Peak has a dexcool compatible antifreeze that is green, the bottle says it is safe to mix it. But for a good flush make sure you undo the plugs on the block. I usually take my truck to a shop for fluid flushes because its such a PITA to dispose of the waste. I am just lucky enough to know a place that is trustworthy.

Perhaps you know where the drain plug(s) are on the block of a 2001 2.2L?

Installed a Prestone flush tee fitting in heater hose yesterday after filling and draining and filling and draining the radiator for over an hour with the engine running and still getting orange. The tee fitting made quick work of it.

Then with the system as drained as I could get, it only held another 6 quarts. Various sources say the system holds 12 to 14 quarts. I might have a 50/50 ratio, or I might not.

"Green" is not a coolant type. The color of coolant is an arbitrary decision made by the manufacturer's advertising department.

FWIW I used Peak's propylene glycol coolant, the "low tox" stuff. While its color is green it is not compatible with the "green stuff".

Use a brand of propylene glycol called "Engine Ice" in my KTM (pictured). It is blue.
