need GOOD motor mounts 98 4.3 s10

The regular aftermarket mounts suck. Is there anything else out there? All searches only bring up v8 swaps. Need something that is suitable for off-road, any help would be appreciated!

Contact Boosted Thrills. Not sure if here's got an account on here, but he hangs out on SSF a lot. He makes new frame pads that will let you use Energy Suspension poly motor mounts for a V8. They interlock, so they're strong as hell.

Anyone got a price guestimate?

ZR1 S10 - I see you have a '96, which means they should hopefully fit my '96 also Its 4WD but hopefully that doesn't make a diff with the mounts. I never know, with that front differential in the way and stuff. Any ideas?

Honestly I believe the pads he makes are only for 2wd but I am not sure if there are even any differences between 2 and 4 wheel. He sells the pads shipped for around $60, the energy suspension mounts go for around $40 I think.

yea stock 4.3 mounts were shit from the factory and factory replacements suck, i broke 4-5 mounts in less than a yr and a 1/2 along with 3-4 trans mounts till i finally got Energy Suspension urethane mounts and now 4 yrs later no broken mounts yet so they must be pretty good bc i certainly abuse them lol i got mine from Summit Racing www.summitracing.com and theyre about $40..ish a piece for the motor mounts and around $20 or so for the trans. def money well spent

idk what im puttin at the crank, cant be too much since its all stock internals and just a few minor bolt ons and a lot of miles, im sure the built trans and alot of meat on the ground helps out with twisting the motor and trans mounts apart tho

Re: need GOOD motor mounts 98 4.3 s10

JTR sell mounts that use the clamshell 2.8L mounts, the same used for the V8 swaps, for use with the 4.3. I haven't used them but I wouldn't hesitate to.

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Par...entMounts.html

or you can get a pair of stock GM made 2.8L mounts, install poly bushings in them, and then buy JTR's adapter plates.

i always wondered why in the hell they made the good mounts for the 2.8 but didnt continue that design on the 4.3 i had always thought about making a plate for the motor and using 2.8 frame mounts, guess somebody else had the same idea, yea i wouldnt hesitate to run those, they CANT come apart, its surrounded by rubber thats incapsulated in metal, theyll hold 600+ hp i bet

Re: need GOOD motor mounts 98 4.3 s10

yup, I was thinking the same thing about the clamshell mounts. For the longest time I assumed that all mounts were designed so if the rubber failed the mount still held the drivetrain in relative place.....then I discovered 4.3 mounts lol. Bonded rubber to a metal plate sounds like a bad idea from the start, way to go GM engineers!

haha yea def not the smartest thing they've ever done hey had a "safety catch" on them in case it came apart... yea that worked real well i twisted that "safety catch" like a can, ive demolished those mounts after the air cleaner has hit the bottom of my hood, or you hit 2nd and it snaps motor and trans mount at the same time and ur motor is sideways in the engine bay but i do have to say the Energy Suspension has took some abuse and is still holding up pretty well, and the internal lock on those seem like they would actually be functional unlike GMs

I just want to say that the 4.3 mounts aren't the first to use two metal plates with rubber bonded between them. My 77 Dodge motor mounts are like that as well, but back then, you only have one bolt holding the mount to the frame and another bolt holding it to the motor bracket. I know Dodge didn't change them until the 80's I believe.

My old 4.3 mounts didn't have a safety catch lol. It was straight rubber bonded to metal, nothing else. When I had the engine on the ground the only part that was left of the mount was the plate bolted to the block.

And I'm pretty sure that Dodge isn't the only one to use the rubber bonded motor mounts, Ford, GM, and Dodge all used them. I was just pointing out that GM isn't alone. But to each their own. My 85 Ramcharger is awesome, but I wouldn't touch their stuff in the past 10-15 years.

X2... I have the JTR conversion mounts in both my trucks and will never run anything else.

On my blazer i even bought factory ACDelco 2.8/astro van mount and used just the JTR bracket ... it idles smooth, and will probably outlive the truck.
