Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

Understanding driveline losses etc, but having everyone always quote at the crank. Just so you can give your friends a nice number what would you say the HP would be of a 2000 4.3L X-VIN (4X4) with a CAI, catback exhaust, and Wait4Me PCM?

I'm thinking 215HP at the crank is a reasonable to spurt out??

What about TQ?

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

id say thats a good estimate for crank hp. an efan and some underdrive pulleys would give back a few more so you could possible have like 218, also it depends on engine wear, too.
its quoted at 180hp for an x-vin (correct me if im wrong, i have a w) and thats brand new with only a few hours runtime on it. now its like 8 years old with prolly 100k miles on it so...

edit: i also dont have a new pcm yet either...

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

question for those of you who have aftermarket camshafts

can the new pcm tune take this into acount? It should if jesse knows before it's programed. I want to do either some rockers, cam, or both. I know different cams will affect the engine and thus freak the pcm out. Am I better of just going with the rockers? Or should the re-programming work well with the cam?

I don't like guess work. "Well, this sounds good with a cam"
However, 1.6 rockers wont mess with the computer.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

Not trying to down you but 215 would be the highest...and thats being nice...your talking 35 extra horses...I'd say more 200 205 at the crank but if you wanted horsepower at the wheels(which is what you're really getting) then knock another 25-30 hp from stock(180)....CAI and exhaust are good but together would add no more than 10 horsepower together and then PCM would only bee good for about 10 itself....it gives more torque than hp....these engines are known for the amount of torque they have, not hp.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

It's been a long time since I have been in this thread, but I just did some reading to catch up and had some more to say. First off to Mikz86TA...your buddys GTO does not have an LS6 in it from the factory....I also have an 06 GTO...they are LS2's, rated at 400hp/ 400ft lbs. Tuning gains on a GTO with headers are in no way indicative of what you can expect from a semi-custom tune on your 4.3 S-truck.

I had Jesse send me a tuned PCM for my Blazer several months ago. I went from a Hypertech to the tuned PCM, and could immediatly tell a difference in SOTP performance. The 1-2 shift was MUCH improved... it didn't fall on it's face anymore, and then pick up and go (after the shift kit install). Top speed limiter was gone...I've had the truck over 130mph (probably closer to 140 according to the tach). I didn't notice much af a gain in MPG, but I didn't loose any either even though the truck runs better and feels like it has more power. The truck was an 2001 X-Blazer with the following mods:

K&N FIPK (worth the money also)
custom y-pipe (no CAT or pre-CAT)
Flowmaster 40-series CAT-back (over the axle)
3.73 posi Ford 8.8"
NGK plugs/ Taylor wires
Flexalite electric fans
removed AIR pump and hardware
removed rear O2 sensor
160 t-stat
B&M shift kit

PCM was tuned for all of this and to correct speedo after gear change. No SES light, and I never did the crank relearn. I did have a security light on though, and I have heard of others with this problem. Did not affect truck starting or running though???? Jesse wasn't sure how that happened.
With the listed mods and 20x10's on the rear with Nitto NT555 285/30r20's, it would BAKE the rear tires off, and ran 15's. Not bad for a V6. Like I said though, I got sick of going slow and bought the GTO. 13.3's stock and 12.9's with very minimal mods. Traction is definitely a problem now.

One modification in the PCM has not been discussed. 4 doors are notorious for having a very loose torque converter. I can cruise for miles sometimes before the converter locks up. Even when hot too. Can the PCM be flashed to control part of the lock feature? Say lock it above 55 MPH? I installed a 24000 GVW external tranny cooler. Oil temps take a while to get hot.
Yes, converter lock up parameters can be modified too.

Same thing for all you Arizona guys, I have HPT and can do the relearn for free.

By the way I have had my W4M tune in the truck for about 30,000 miles and its been great, (before I got HPT) you can look at my post when I got it several pages back

Is the wait4me tune unlocked, that is, can you modify settings in it?

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

heres something i thought of today...

is the abs controlled by the pcm or independently? cuz i have smaller tires on the front/big fat ones on the rear. i know i lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 feet of stopping distance by doing this but i'd still like to correct it.
i know that he (jesse) can correct for tire sizes but can he correct them for two different sizes? right now the abs sensors are reading at different speeds.

No, the ABS module is separate from the PCM/BCM/CAN. I doubt any tuning software will let you edit the ABS properties because of the liability.

not entirely true, i had my truck reprogrammed(or so i thought) for my new tire size through the techII. come to find out...my abs knew that i was running the 245/50/16 but my pcm thought i still had the 205/75/15s on there. my speedometer was off by about 3 mph and the gap grew bigger the faster i went.

but the point is, you can program the abs for the correct tire size, im thinking that it is somewhere under the bcm settings and not the pcm.

I had some trouble getting ahold of him too lately, so I just sent the PCM in with a check for $159 and I got it back within a week and a half.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

i live about 45 mins south of louisville and i cant do one but all you have to do is look for a smaller shop or call around and ask if anyone has a snap-on diagnostic machine (the expensive ones, there are other brands too) your best bet is the smaller shops cuz no-one ever needs to have this done and since it only takes like 10 minutes to setup and conduct it should only be like $20.

For their safety....wow.....hmmm. I haven't looked at the transmission part of my W4M tune, however when I got it there was a noticeable difference in feel. Also someone on here I think did a dyno run after getting his W4M tune and there is a HUGE jump in shift performance that is clearly visible on the graph...i think it might have been zygoat......not sure.

Jesse will remove TM up to 75%, but he told me he prefers not to remove more than that.. he definetly reduced by about that much on mine, as i can just barely notice a trace of TM now...

does anyone have a 4x4 with this tune? I am thinking of getting a w4m tune but I dont need power high in the rpm range. I want tourqe and throttle response and improved shift firmness. Im going to get one here soon, I just wanted to know how my difference you can feel turning over a larger tire.

thanks

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

I asked for 80 percent torque management removal, because I have a transmission that can take well over 400 HP. I don't think he removed any. I am watching the timing drop about 20 deg during shifts.

The thing you are probably feeling is the reduced shift time/increased pressure.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

I have a 1997 Sonoma 4 X 4-- had it done a year ago runs great, I had the Corvette shift kit put in before the tune. This tranny that I had had never been modified, it would hang up and the SES light would come on. They drilled the valve body and installed the Corvette kit then. I was reading on this forum about Wait4me tune and decided to get one done. You will really love it, I can squeel the tires in a 1-2 shift easily.

Do you have a stock tune file from your truck that you can compare in HPT? I have my stock computer but its not installed in the truck and I don't really feel like installing it just to get the factory tune. If I get to it this weekend I will install it and pull the tune off and compare.

OK so I compared Yogi's stock file to mine and there is significant differences between the two in reguards to torque management. I think its safe to say that in my case he did remove torque management by 75% maybe a little more. Here are some screen shots of the two tables:

Yogi's Stock tune:

My W4M tune with TM removed 75%:

I can't even read those jpgs, but I can make an excell spread sheet comparing the TQM changes if you would like.

I was going to go to the dyno this weekend, but they are going to be at the Huckstorf show.

Its cool the jpegs were just an extra, my tune from him did have TM removed like I asked, so it seems that he does at least sometimes remove TM when requested.

So back to the point of this thread, he does remove TM if its asked for.

Just got my pcm in today, and it kicks ass! Feels great through out the entire power band. Shifts feel great. No SES light. All in all the best $157.xx i ever spent on my truck. With my 235's It will burn into second from a 10 mph roll
