My bad.... P0315....P0135...all looks the same to my bad eyes......

If you didn't get the code before the PCM change, I would definitely take it up with Jesse. It's highly unlikely that any hardware (like O2 sensors) would fail exactly at the same time you upgraded the PCM.

And if you think it's a whole new truck with it running that rich, wait until you get it tuned correctly!

Not sure what you mean by "going from park to drive" AND "it only does it in 1st and 2nd gear" ?? At a standstill, nothing related to torque management or its removal would cause a hard tranny shift. Mine doesn't exhibit anything like what I think you're describing. The PCM and the Corvette servo in mine combine for a pretty firm 1-2 shift, but that's only underway. Could be Jesse set the tranny line pressure a little high, or could be a high idle speed. Mine idles around 600 RPM, standing still, in drive. Again a phone call to Jesse might be in order.

The only thing that might happen is some early detonation (knocking and pinging), which the knock sensor would pick up and retard the timing considerably until it stops. No harm, but it won't be at full potential power and may get worse mileage. Next tank of all 93 and it will be happy again.

Good luck guys,

James

when i said going from park to drive i meant when the truck is on and idling in park and i shift into drive i feel a jerk. also it idles around 1100 RPMS in drive at idle too and feels like it's going to die.

Well, I double checked my VIN and it matches what I had sent in. Same thing here, the truck runs fine but that security light is annoying, right in the middle! Still looking for a fix here.

1100 RPM doesn't seem right. Write down all the numbers on the bottom of your factory PCM and the W4M PCM, and give Jesse a call. Could be you got the wrong version PCM for your truck.

Good luck,

James

I agree with FamilyMan that that's most likely the higher line pressure.

It's the same way B&M "electronic shift improver" works, if I forget and leave it on the 2nd position, it bangs into gear way hard, so badly that when the u-joints were starting to go they would make a loud snapping sound. Bad news. Again, like already said, I would talk to Jesse about perhaps dropping the line pressure a bit, constant "shocking" of the driveline like that is terrible for the longevity of the various components.

i'm not sure if i'm gonna keep this thing in my truck or not. i tried calling w4me today but all i got was a busy tone. my truck is spitting and sputtering at idle still. i'm kinda disappointed.

I know its frustrating but let them try to make it right, I know i couldn't be happier with my tune and I'm pretty picky. A simple return, or exchange can turn this waste of money into a success. Just my 0.02

Eric, did you have them program your pcm, or did you buy another core from them? If you still have the orig, throw back back in just to make sure that's it's not a coincidental but unrelated issue. If another pcm isn't available and your certain it is the new tune, call 'em up, send it back, i'm sure they'll try to make it right.

The reason I say it might be something else is b/c I read what your truck is doing in some other thread, and it sounds an awful lot like when my cat started getting plugged.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

i would have to agree with the other posts. call/e-mail jesse , he will fix what ever is wrong.like a said when i got mine the S.E.S. light came on and it was stuck in 2nd and would only go in 1st when i did it myself.sent it back and have no problems. when i first put it in i still had the stock t-stat and it was re-programed for a 160 so it was getting gas ping when it was fully warmed up , so i put my 160* in and all is well , no more pinging.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

Bitch Bitch bitch Got mine done 4 months ago, runs perfect shifts are more firmer, had the corvette servo put in. Did not notice anybetter gas mileage but this truck runs so much better. Had solenoid go out of the tranny before the tune. I would highly recommend that you call Jesse directly, I talked to him on the phone, and e-mailed my request to Hannah. If you have a problem with their tune and you paid for it, why would you not install your original pcm and then send the tuned one back???? Instead of slamming the vendor, hell he will make it right. He only charges $75.00 for a retune after modifications, if you can beat that better do it, otherwise stick with the lawn mowers. they are easy to tune put in a new plug and go.

they don't charge for re-tune after mods . it is free for the life of your truck.you just have to pay for the shipping.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

After reading all these post, I have to add mine. I've been driving around with my W4M tuned pcm going on the forth month now, my truck runs smoother, faster, seems to have more low end, partly cause it does, but mostly cause it shifts at much better place than factory shift points, more positive shifting, without beeing rough, and better MPG's on 87, 90 or 91 and 93 octane gas. When I put the tuned PCM in, the truck fired right up and I got NO codes or MIL light.
All this is exactly what I origanally said what I wanted out of the truck, Hanna & Jessie deliver great prouduct at a great price with great comminucation and customer service, and FAST! Can you ask for any more? This summer I'm going up there to meet them and see how it all works.

I didnt have any luck with my w4m, but oh well I guess. all my shift points were screwed right up, at WOT I wasnt shifting. I even sent it back to let him know what was going on, but still no change, so I just took the ecm out and put my other one back in

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

I still plan on getting a tune done too. For now Im still rockin the JET.
Im waiting to get these headers on it that have been sitting here for over 2 months now and also doing a 3.42 gearswap. Just busy and low on funds for it all. Plus I need a 3.42 set for a 8.5 diffy. GM gears and cheap is my target =)

I think if I paid for the tune and had the OEM PCM option while I sent the defective tuned PCM back , it would be a done deal already. I cant see why one would just complain about the wate of money and not do anything about it. It cost you only shipping, and with the right attitude and communication, maybe a freebie.
Its like buying a set of tires online and demanding they be pre-balanced. Getting them, putting them on your rims and complaining they are not balanced.
Point is, every truck isnt the same. Four 2000 4.3 autos can have the same tune done exactly by them or anyone else. Those get installed in their respected vehicles and youll have 4 different results. One of which may be a blem. But the differences in installation being followed per manufacturer suggestions, mileage and care, condition of sensors and vehicle, as well as a whole bunch of other variables will be the cause of different results.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

I've had my W4M PCM for 5-6 months now; about 5k miles worth of mixed hwy/city commute. Still think it's the best money I've spent on the truck and I still don't know how Jesse provides a complete tuned PCM for $159.

The 4.3/auto is night-and-day different (better) with the tune. I'm not getting the mpg increase I'd hoped for, but that's mostly due to the heavy right foot! Stoplight starts, freeway on-ramps, highway speed passing, it's all so much better with the tune. The truck finally performs up to its hp/torque specs, and is the way it should have come from the factory. For a daily driver, it is so much more pleasant/fun to drive.

Decide for yourself, but this is one upgrade I'd do again at twice the price.

I have a question about the PCM upgrade that I'm not sure if it has been answered before. If your battery dies or it's taken out do you lose the tune?

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

I paid $400 for the Hypertech Power Programmer III and was extremely dissapointed. Did not live up to what they said it was supposed to do. I hated it.

Then I found this thread and started reading what excellent things you guys had to say about it actually working! So I called Jesse and he told me exactly what I wanted to hear. Him and Hannah are great people and very helpful.

Ordered the pcm and my truck is so much more fun to drive now!!! 1st into second will chirp the tires if conditions are right. The truck is just much different and a blast to drive! Thing about it that made me happy is my friend has an 80's model silverado with a built 355 in it with around 320hp that wont race me now cause he's afraid that he will lose.(what a pussy)

If you dont have this...YOU NEED TO GET IT!!!! To quote what so many have said on this thread....it performs like it should from the factory. You will not be dissappointed. For $159 you cant beat it.

I have never had to worry about flashing the computer, you shouldn't either, I just had W4M tune my computer to what he recommended and put it on and ran with it. If I understand it they flash it to go back to to original factory settings. I don't know that it is ever necessary unless you have a major problem with a tune and need to go back to square one. If you have a later model truck, vehicle you will have to do a crank relearn on the computer. It is written up here some where in this thread by James I believe.

BTW, still lovin my W4M PCM....
got a track verified performance gain, and consistently getting about 1.5 mpg better economy.... no more speed limiter,no Torque Management issues, and no more annoying EGR/ect. codes!

still the best "bang for the buck" mod i`ve done.

inprogress10, i`m not sure why you are still bitching about your tune from Jesse, when you never even gave him a chance to fix it.....

If you were to take your vehicle back to the dealer to have service done, you would want to make sure that they did not reflash the PCM. Some dealers upgrade the firmware in the PCM when they work on vehicles, especially if they are still under warranty. The PCM will not loose its tune from having the battery go dead though.

Alright, sounds good. Sounds like it's not something I have to worry about as we've never brought anything to a dealer or shop for work as everything is done in our own garage. I think this might be something I'll have to get for my dad's Blazer (maybe a late Christmas or BDay present) as it's sluggish with the 2.62 gears.

Damn, i didn't realize that they even came with that high of a gear set. Might look into a gear swap also. It would make a big difference to step up to 3.42's or 3.73's, then do the tune.

...and I'm the same way, I work on all my shit.

I can check in the glove box but when my dad rebuilt the 4WD he had to get the right gears to match the rear end which said 2.62.

Thanks for the compliment travy. I've learned a lot from this forum and when I can be of some help, I try to give back a little. I also like to put in a good word for an outstanding product/service when I find it. Jesse and Hannah make that part easy.

My truck is an '03 Sonoma Ext Cab 4.3/auto; ZQ8, locking rear, power everything; 29k mi.

Happy New Year all.

Why would the low range ratio be a tall gear? Anyway, wouldn't you want the front ratio to match the rear? When I get around to it I'll check the glove box and make sure...I was just going by what my dad told me it had for a gear ratio and I can tell you it sure feels like it's got tall gears as it's got no get up and go and cruises at a pretty low RPM.

its A LOW RANGE ratio.... in 2hi or 4hi, the transfer case sends power to the axles at 1:1. in 4low, its 2.72:1

axle ratio X 2.72 transfer case ratio.....
for example: 3.08 axles, times transfer case in low range, would be about an 8.37:1 effective final ratio. plus the transmission gear ratio, for whatever gear its in at the time...

and yes, both axles should have the same gear ratio.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...

Hey guys, I just mailed out my check for $159 today. Hopefully I'll get my PCM pretty soon. I saw this thread and remembered, I wrote down the information (Vin, gear ratio, tire size, what I expect to see out of the tune, etc.) and I was going to go outside the next morning to get the vin #. Well, my stupid ass forgot to get it, and I mailed out the info without the vin. So I had to e-mail Jesse with that information. But hopefully everything will turn out, and I will see good results from this new PCM.
