Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
Well, when I put the new pcm in, the truck wouldn't start. The security light on the dash came on for the 1st time too. It would just crank and crank and not start. Then, we had to let the truck set for 10 minutes with the ignition on for 3 cycles, (30 minutes total doing this 3 times) so that the pcm would unlock on the security and allow the truck to start. After the 3rd cycle, the truck started right up and the security light went off. This was supposed to be deleted with the tune.
The last guy I went to, showed me that the snap on solus wouldn't recognize the crank, it just kept flashing and flashing....so I don't know. The SES light never came on, and hasn't come on at all either. I guess that I'll get a hold of GM and see if the Tech II will reset it on Monday. Just stinks to be out $225 extra for hook ups so far, and another $100ish to go to GM. If that doesn't fix the high idle, then I'll be sending it back for sure. What I was saying was, I don't know if the truck will have to do the security relearn again, with the 3 cycles for 10 minutes. This all just seems like too much trouble, and that somethings not been done correct w/the program. |

What relearn are you guys talking about??? I sent my ECU out, got it back, plugged it in, and everything works perfect. No codes and it does everything I asked for.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
See, I had to keep mine orginal computer and get a tuned one because this is my only transportation and I couldn't have down time. A ckp relearn maps the fuel info of the truck. You wouldn't have to do a relearn since you used your orginal computer, so no worries for you.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
Well, my SES light came on today, so I dropped it off at GM for the 'early bird' service to see if they'll fix the crank. If they wipe it out, I'll just send it back or if it's not performing right I'll send it back. At least it will have the crank relearn this time I guess, so we shall see!

just make sure they dont re-flash the entire PCM.
it will erase your W4M tuning if they do... |

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
I got the relearn done, GM called and said it's ready. $89 for just the crank relearn. I talked to the shop manager and they've done this before for someone so they know what to do. And, if it gets erased, I'll just send it back to Jesse, and at least it will already have the relearn done! I should be able to tell if it's be erased. Hoping this will take care of the high idle I got after the install. So we'll see. To be honest, it really ran like crap b4 the relearn, so I'm excited to see if this makes a big difference. I'm going on a long trip tomorrow due to a death in the family, so I'll be more than able to check the mileage to see and will post the results.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
Went on my trip, got just under 23mpg running 75-80. Better than the almost 20 I was getting. But I did put on a MSD 6A, and K&N cold air as well. Also switched to syn oil. Still have high idle, but don't think that's related to the tune.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
Glad that it is working good for you now that you got the relearn and stuff. Is the security issue fine too that you were having???
I picked mine up at the post office outlet today, I wont have anything to report until I take my truck out of storage next week or so, but I will definately be posting my experience!! I have a manual transmission as well so I guess it wont be as much gain as the autos but hope to see some difference. If nothing, their customer service is great!!! It got to them and it was sent back the same day and I got it in 4 days to Canada! Shipping costed them $25 and they only charged me $20 as well!! |

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
The security issue was reset. Had to cycle the ignition key once every tens minutes exactly for it to reset before it would start. I can't really tell much difference at this point. I think all the upgrades working together helped alot. LMK how your's does, I'd be interested in comparing a couple of 5 speeds!

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
I have had my Wait4Me tune on my '05' 5-Speed for about 8 months now and think it was the best money I ever spent. I don't know what you all asked of Jesse on yours, but i asked him to eliminate the drop in rpms between shifts which it does and makes for a much smoother shift for all around driving it and stopming on it! Getting rid of that stupid annoying 'Shift up arrow" light was worth it to me. I recently put my stock computer back in to go pass the smog test just for precaution and I hated driving it! I can tell a big difference between the stock and modified ECU and my mpgs did go up as well, I should mention that I only use Top Tier Shell or Phillips66 93 Octane.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
ok... so originally i thought it would be a good idea to just get a cheap used pcm and use it in my truck while i send in my own. that would save me money on the relearn and the cost of buying one from them. but after reading all 13 pages, looks like some ppl are having problems with foreign pcms. warning lights/security/etc. sooo... has anyone done it this way? or are ppl just sending in the used/salvage pcm in to have tuned and then getting the relearn? also... who wants to sell me their used pcm for an 02 4.3 automatic?

I got my crank relearn done for 45 bucks(i think) which isn't much.
I think it's just easier to have them send you one then you do the crank relearn from a good shop. |

yeah it'd be the easiest but not the cheapest. that's still 200 bucks. which from what everyone is saying would be the best 200 i could spend, but why spend 200 when i could make it the best 150 or less i've ever spent. |

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
I think I figured out where the "Security" issue comes from. If you use the high speed flash, about 1/10 doesn't work. This seems more prevalent on the 2001/2002 (512K PCM) than the 2003+ (1MB PCM).
You don't need the pedal to the floor to do the crank relearn. Only about 1/4 throttle to raise the RPMs high enough for the cutoff. |

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
I have read and read and still have a couple questions.
1. if I send them the one out of my truck, will I have to have anything done to it or will it just be plug and play? 2. what all options do they offer and what would you guys suggest to have done? I know that I want the security thing taken off, top speed, much firmer shifts, more power, more mpg, the gas cap code removed (FOREVER) etc. and can they erase the 02 sensor code permently because I had to cut my cat out and the sensors arent plugged up and will that effect anything performance at all? what is the best thing to do with the 02 sensors if I get the tune? 3. will a 97 sonoma PCM interchange on my 98 sonoma untill I get mine back? they have same everything under the hood looks like. 4. do they charge for a TOTAL retune if you make minor upgrades to your truck? Say if you get the PCM and then a month later get aftermarket exhaust or a K+N filter do they charge you the full price for a retune? 5. is there anything that you would change about your tune after you got it? like wish you would have said more performance and less mpg or visa versa? thanks |

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
i did. well not the air pump, my current truck wasnt
equipped with it. i wish i had the EVAP system codes removed. next time i will... the readiness monitor for the EVAP takes weeks to set to "OK" sometimes, and once in a rare while, will set a "system malfunction" code, forget which #. then it wont set again for quite a long time. that system is too damn picky about its diagnosics.. |

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
my thoughts a year later......
I got my pcm tuned for 93 octane.... (supposedly)... I ran 93 religiously from the time I got the new pcm until a few months ago, averaged around 16-17mpg give or take, depending on the kind of driving. My truck definitely felt like it moved easier than factory once I got the new pcm, which is what I was looking for; however it still felt like it too to much throttle effort to keep it moving and to take off after setting off, shifting, etc.... I tried lower octane fuel recently(87 w/o ethanol, hard to find) and the truck feels better taking off, shifting, etc. Somehow I'm able to handle the timing boost without using 89 or 93. I sometimes (but very rarely) get spark knock for a second or 2 when pulling out way to fast without giving it enough gas or when in a high gear at a real low rpm and just under a big load. It seems as though Im running close to the edge of detonation. It runs better than it did before, plus mileage is better (not sure how much of it has to do with the ethanol free gasoline). I'm sure the pcm pulls timing a little bit when I get a little knock, but it rarely happens. has anyone else tried the lower octane fuels with the higher octane "tune"? I know the PCM is supposed to automatically adjust anyway, but mine seems to be best with the more volatile, lower octane fuels, despite being setup for the higher ones. |

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
Got a question for you gurus on here. I just got finished putting an e-fan on my truck this weekend, and the only other performance mod I have in mind is a shift kit. Would it benefit me any to send the PCM out again and have Jesse tune it specifically for these mods? I already have TM removed by 50%, I can't really see how he'd tune it for an e-fan and a shift kit. I listed the mods done to my truck when I sent it out the first time, just wondering if I should bother having it tuned again after adding 2 more mods to it. Thoughts?

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
nothing to adjust for switching to an efan,
but if you had Jesse to raise the line pressure in the tranny, your shift kit may end up being more harsh than you might like. i had him to raise my line pressure just slightly, and i installed the vette servo for improved 2nd gear firmness, and i am pleased with the results. |

From having both a shift kit and a servo at the same time, if I do my new truck I'll just be doing the transgo shift kit.

Re: my new "Wait4me performance" PCM...
I think it might shift funny with only 50% TQ management taken out. I don't know how to explain it but if you have ever had a shift kit installed with the stock tune you'll know what I'm talking about. I have a trans-go kit w/accumulator pistons, seals and vette servo. https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=64&page=1
I asked Bryan at PCMforless to remove all the Tq management, but I don't think he did. Mine still has a split second hesitation before the 1-2 shift at certain times. Usually at part throttle and lower in the rpms. Never in WOT. Acts great when it's floored. I am sure it's a result of the little bit of tq management left in the tune. Getting them to remove all of it is impossible. It's like their scared. Even though Tran-go says to disable it. Go figure.....I need HP tuners.... If it isn't the the tqm then it's something else in the tune because my trans is fine. At least I'm about 95% it's fine. Anything is possible I guess.
