Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
Truck is up and running now and seems fine, ran smooth and had 50lb oil pressure when hot at idle and no leaks or noises at all. I will test drive it more than around the block after I get cleaned up and ready to go out for a ride in a bit.

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
I just got back from a second test drive and getting gas, ran fine. No pinging or smoking or funny noises at all. I saw no leaks or drips or anything of that nature either. Seems like it runs just fine now, hopefully I am all set for the winter, just want to change the oil one more time in a few days to be safe as it is cheap insurance against any other issues. Thanks for all the input on this mess too!!!

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
Thanks! I am just glad it is OK, my wallet needed CPR about 10 times in the last week LOL. I am going to change the oil/filter again tomorrow afternoon and check it all over again for leaks but I believe I am good to go.

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
OK I did about 85 miles on this since fixing it and it seems to run pretty good BUT (you knew that was coming) it seems to idle ever so slightly rougher than it did and maybe 75 RPM lower too, maybe my imagination, maybe not. I put the scanner on it just for kicks and it has no codes but shows 22 misfires on cylinder 4 in HISTORY not current. This is NOT the cylinder with the "loose screw" issue and I am going to drive it around with the scanner connected tomorrow and see if it gets anymore misfires or not. If there are misfires I will pull plug #4 and take a look see and probably replace it, I did wires when I just put it together as I tore the boot on #6 so I doubt they are bad but I re-used the plugs and I am wondering if I mis-handled one and cracked it slightly or maybe I am getting poppet syndrome. I will post back later. Should I post a new thread on this issue or just keep this one going?? Do not want to step on toes and make more people mad at me!!

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
As far as the post, it is your thread, builder, post as much stuff as you want. Did you clear the misfires before you test drove it? Is this old info from before?

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
They were in history not current but I was going to the mall today and did not get a chance to drive it around and check for misfires as I did not want to leave my scanner in the truck while in the mall. Tomorrow I have nothing on so I will drive it around and see what happens.

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
Still showing multiple misfires on several cylinders BUT no codes and it seems to run just fine, I did 400+ miles since assembly and it seems fine. I just changed the oil for the second time today and saw no metal or anything in it so I think I am safe. I also did my upper arm bushings and upper ball joints on both sides as well. I am ready to just drive it for the winter or sell it, I think I may be into it a bit much to sell it without more use though- about $3300 as it sits not counting the Avic Navi Unit and it still has loads of dings/scratches all around nothing huge just spread out. This was so much more fun when I was 29 LOL.

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
I think you will be okay unless you are pushing the engine. I would be more worried about the quench area being scored then anything. Hot spots and/or scores in the the quench area will cause knocking and/or compression loss. Again i think you will be okay unless you are running the engine hard.
Good Luck! Chris |

Re: LIM done and immediate knocking WTF!!
I am wondering if the misfires are the beginning of the poppets crapping out? I may end up doing the conversion to injectors with the kit from gmpartsdirect if it comes down to it. I kind of wanted to sell it before all this mess but my only issue is buying something else and starting all over again with it. Biggest problem I have with the truck is the fact it is a stick, I do mind too much but I am diabetic and some days my feet/legs just ache horribly and it pains me literally to drive it, especially in traffic. Time will tell!
