Right, unless you need it for emissions. But since the intake manifold will require a tune anyhow(different injectors) it is really easy to just turn off the codes.

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

Does anyone know what size injectors come stock in that manifold, obviously we cant run anything too huge without boost?

Hey mint make sure you take pics and post what needs to be modified to make this work. I was going to do it, but looks like you beat me to the punch.

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

If it's the same as the V8 manifold, than probably 24lb injectors.

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

Ok got some pictures, I also weighed this thing and it is 52 pounds! I didn't weigh the stock setup before I put my engine back together, but remembering carrying it around it is easly 20lbs lighter than this intake....I really don't think 20lbs matters for my particular application but it may matter to some people. Just from looking at the pricing from mercruiser for a new intake I am not sure what this guy was thinking, to buy a brand new setup like this is way over $1000, for $230 shipped I can't see a cheaper way to gain just about full control over the fuel system on a 96+ 4.3. I am not ready to throw this on anytime soon since the rebuilt motor still only has about 200 miles on it, but this will probably be a fall/winter project so I can do my research and start fabbing anything that I will need ahead of time.

Is that the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail setup? Is it adjustable?

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

good info MINT. thanks.
it looks like there is quite a dip around the injectors in the runner roof. is there enough material there for some porting work?

Ya it definitely looks like some port work could be done from the pics, I will probably look into that when I am close to doing the swap.

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

i weighed my other stock (97) intake that i have, last night. complete, w/o ign. coil and bracket, it weighs about 22 lbs.
wow, a 30 LB. difference. thats a little more than i expected, but no big deal.

as for me, i plan to stay within the confines of the stock injection setup.
but porting modifications have already begun on the 97 manifold... with an angle grinder....

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

I will take the wieght gain for the improved control of the fuel system, only problem is finding that setup around here...all the salvage yards have the carbd 4.3s...seems as though the fuel injected ones never break down...

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

wouldnt the power bands be designed for very different purposes? the marine intake is designed the have a higher rpms for long periods of time. marine engines tend to run poor for an automotive use. especially for a daily driver.

might be good for a strip eng. but if u have a car/truck u dedicate to just racing, r u gonna go with a 262?

No not really there shouldn't be any affect on driveability between this and the stock intake. I am just using the intake not a complete marine engine.

Most of the differances are in the valve train and the camshaft

And as long as you dont want to tow a whole hell of a lot it really wouldnt matter too much. My power peak is between 4300-5100 with max hp at about 5k

and Mike, you are definately going to have to keep us informed and take lots of pics

Oh I plan on it, I probably won't get to this until the fall/winter since the s10 is currently my only form of transportation, not to say I couldn't get it done in a weekend as long as I do my homework with it.

Well, doesn't seem like there'd be too too much homework in figuring out how to get it to just work. It's getting the best performance out of it that requires a little more digging....

Re: Interesting marine intake on eBay

The most work is adapting the evap system really, the fuel lines are easy as is splicing the injectors into the factory harness.

Just throw a vac line on it, and plumb it in. May have to drill/tap the upper intake if you need more vac ports, but off the vehicle and in aluminum it really won't be that hard.

And there you have it. I wonder how much itll help a N/A motor with the larger injectors and a really good tune.
