In line fuel pump 4.3, 96' S10

K,finally got my summit G3138 fuel pump$79.00(same as the msd $94.00 same manufacturer, even has the 2225 stamped on it).Im planning on installing it before the filter along the frame rail.I just opened the box and theres a note saying not to put it below the bottom of the tank level.I have to assume they just say this in case theres a leak so it wont siphon the entire tank for safety reasons or liability.Anybody know anything I dont , cuz Im not planning on changing my plan here. Please advise. Thanks!

I would put it as low as I could get it as long as it was above the bottom of the frame.

K,pump is in,I hear it working, added fuel, primed the throttle jobbie with a shot of gas but it dies every time. The pump is mounted above the bottom of the tank level.I found some kinda schrader valve jobbie next to the distributor so I assumed it went to the injectors.I pressed it,got a little bit of spitting but mostly gas. What now?Do I need to bleed something?Keep in mind its been sitting a few months in florida weather dry.Maybe give things a well placed rap with a hammer?Fuel regulator?I dont get it.

That Schrader valve is on the fuel line to the injectors. Get a fuel pump pressure gauge and screw it on there and check your fuel pressure.

How long does it run b4 it dies? Is this the same as b4 the new fuel pump install? Any more details would help.

Just fuel hose. The pumps have factory brass tubing and I didnt want to chance flaring them so I went the ol' rubber hose route.I have a link from here where a guy did this but on a custom tank set up.Its simple as a pimple.Just cut your fuel line(I did between the filter and tank)and mounted it an the frame rail out of harms way.I then split open the wiring harness right above it and saw that there were two Gray wires. One is fuel pump.Snipped it,hoked it up and grounded the other to the frame(drilled a hole then used a self tapping screw).I will later solder my wires as well.K,heres the link with a pic .Good luck! http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l6...6/truck021.jpg

Glad to see that you got her running! So what did you do to fix it?

On the tranny, I'm partial to Mobil synthetic ATF. It's pricey but I think it's worth it.

Re: In line fuel pump 4.3, 96' S10

Just needed some patience.I was not.Its running again and tomorrow I flush the cooling system, change tranny fluid and filter(got the dextronIII forgot its stamped on the dipstick!) and that leaves install ball joints, shocks,(might lower it first)front end alignment.A/c will be a separate project all together.I am also trying my hand at reupholstering for the first time.No beading but I bet it will come out ok.I should skip a beer and buy a digital camera before I get on to the pretty stuff so I can post before and afters.I am also going to buy the old chevy rallys(15x7) with vette(derby) centers for it and was toying with the idea of putting a 67' chevelle SS big block louvers too.Love them.An enthusiast might laugh at the fact that its a vortech v6 but who says it wont be a v8 one day?haha....right after they discover oil under my tree house.Im sure Ill be back on for more info and hopefully return the favor here. Thanks for all the help.

I think that the '67 BB louvers would look cool. Keep it up!

The S10 hoods have quite a crown to them though and the SS thingie might be real long.I have signed on to a chevelle site to ask the legnth.I may have to lay some plastic on the hood and play with some plaster first. Its cheaper than bondo!Maybe wood...k,got myself goin' again...
