Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Great thread, LOT of useful info.
I'm going to go with the Taurus eFan, can anyone tell me beside the fan what I need to put the eFan in my truck (95 S10 4X4 pickup 4.3 TBI Vortec w/AC) I guess cable, fuse, thermostat.???? PS. I'm not good with cables and electric stuff but I'm pretty handy, should I go to a mechanic for this or is simple enough for a newbi. thanks in advance. PS1, that's my S10 ![]() ![]() Last edited by Juanjo : 08-24-2008 at 08:46 PM. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
If you want to hook up just the low speed or high speed, you will need the temperature sensor, a high amp relay, wire, an appropriate size fuse, and a diode if you have A/C.
If you want both speeds to work, you'll need two relays, more wire, two temp sensors, the fuse, and diode if you have A/C. Some zip ties for holding the fan in place are necessary as well as the proper connectors. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Thanks Mike, I'd like to run 2 speed and I have AC. are all those parts expensive (temp sensors, fuse, diode..) ? can I get all that in one place, like Autozone..! looks like the fan is the least expensive thing to buy for this conversion. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
PS,
with this kit I'd like to use the LS fan on to 185, off 170 and the HS fan for the AC only, and the fan OFF when I turn off the car. will that kit do or I'll need a second SPDT relay? |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Fan is the cheapest. The sensors can be bought at Autozone. The fuse will have to be ordered as will the relays. You need like a 40 amp fuse setup and relays that can handle at least 40 amps. I bought my relays from a place in CA for something like $7 and they even had the relay sockets pre wired. Just had to splice my wires in. (never did hook up the fan as I bought an LS1 fan and just got the Flex-A-Lite soft start setup.) Diode can be had from Radio shack for a few bucks for the multi pack. Wire can be had anywhere, just use the good flexible stuff. There is a diagram in one of the results you'll find if you search for taurus e-fan, but it is wired just a little off because of where they show the power coming from. Other than that the diagram for the two relay setup is perfect. You should be able to do the whole setup for under $100.

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Thanks again Mike just order 2 40-50 AMP relay out of ebay ($5.95 each) and the Hayden 3647 kit out of Amazon for $34.52. I just need some 10 gauge cable and a 40 amp fuse, since the one in the kit is 25. OHHH, and tomorrow I'm going to start shopping around Brooklyn junk yards for a Taurus fan.. ![]() |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
one more question..
will the 100amp alternator from the 4.3 S10 be enough for the Taurus eFan.? hope so, cus a new high amp alternator are very pricey and is way out of my budget for this project.. :/ |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Some people say the stock alternator works just fine. Don't know for sure.
I wouldn't buy the kit from Amazon as you don't need it. That kit appears to include one realy and one sensor. not what you want or need. I did not see an amp rating on it. (but if it only has a 25 amp fuse, then it won't work anyway because it's not rated for enough amperage) For the relays, get a higher amp one if at all possible. make sure the ratings they give aren't "spike" ratings but continous. I looked on eBay when I was looking for some and found they were more expensive than other sources. Others can comment more on the alternator. Like I said, I was going to do this until I really started thinking about amp draw. I found an LS1 fan setup cheap and just got the Flex-A-lite setup that comes with all the wiring and fuses and is a complete self contained unit. Paid about $80 for it at Summit Racing because I had a coupon they sent me. I haven't installed the fan yet as I plan on making sure I fix my A/C system beforehand. I also want to get a nice scanner that will monitor temperature for me so I know when my settings are perfect with start/stop. |

well, just got back from a junkyard with a freshly pulled out of a nice 95 Taurus 3.8 eFan..
![]() ![]() $40 plus $2tips to the guy that took it out. about the Hayden 3647 kit I bough on Amazon, I find this two threads which show that this kit works fine for this set up. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=82807 http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2003/02/electricfan/ can't wait..! Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Not quite.
If you turn on the A/C but the engine hasn't yet reached temperature, the relay #2 will click, but there will be no power coming through. I would also tie that compressor wire into the relay #1 so that when the compressor has call, it will switch the relay #1 for power and then also relay #2 to high speed. Oh, and both relays need to be rated the same as relay #1 will always have power running through it, regardless of high or low speed. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
No.
Get rid of that red line between the 3647 control and the relay. Your power for the control comes from the ignition. The fused wire should be going directly into the relay. You also don't want 87a to connect to #30 because then the fan will run ALL THE TIME. Put 87 to 30 and you'll be fine. What you need to do is run the compressor wire and tie in to both #85 terminals. This way when the compressor is called for, it will trigger the relays and turn the fan on high. if the compressor is not called for, then the temp sensor can turn the fan on low at any time. In my opinion, you wasted your money going for the controller you did as you coul have getten the same thing with the standard temp sensor for $18 and two relays as shown in the diagram. If you are using the controller as the temp switch and one of the relays, then you won't be able to wire it like you have in the diagram. I'm also afraid you'll burn it up in no time as the aftermarket fans usually draw less power, and also don't move as much air as the Taurus. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Going to need some information from the contoller.
Is it only supposed to kick on one fan at a given temperature? as temperature rises, it kicks on the second fan? What is it supposed to do when it calls for A/C? (turn on #1, #2, or both?) Looking at the controller right now and given the fact that it originally came with a low amperage relay, the high speed of the e-fan would probably burn up the controller. I would try using it as pictured, but only hooked up to the low speed. I really don't see right now how you could put a relay in there between the two hot power wires. You would need some type of signal source to engage/switch the relay and I don't see anything being available. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
I'd think the signal comes from the box..
the control box is for two fans, the fan one it trigger when temp gets to 90*-210* (can be set from the box) fan two when the AC is on. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
I'm assuming then that the first fan stays on all the time. Also assuming that even if the engine isn't up to temperature, both fans will kick on when A/C is requested.
Assuming that, the most recent diagram should work. One change you will want to make is to add an inline fuse to the wires coming off the fan. Maybe a 20 amp on the low side and 40 on the high side. (in addition to a 50 amp on the main circuit.) You'll also want to make sure that blue wire is sized large enough to handle 30+ amps. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
THANKS Mike for all your help.
If is of any use for anyone this diagram WORKS GREAT. I put the ignition cable straight to the battery with the red cable (because I didn't find the ignition cable in the truck) this way the fan keep on working a little after I shut the truck off. Alternator is working perfectly (fingers Xed) Highly recommended the Hayden 3647. ![]() |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Seems Like a good time to bring this thread back up.
Looking to Taurus Efan my Blazer and I have a couple questions. -What Adjustable thermostats are you guys using? -Relays, what size and wheredidja buy them? -What are you using for a 12 volt switched source? Im thinking about using this Diagram since it seems to be the best one I can find ![]() Can anybody suggest anything better? I want to use both Speeds of the Taurus fan, dunno if that affects anything. Thanks! Also, kind of a bummer how most of the diagrams ahve dissapeared over the years. Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
here you have few..
with Hayden 3647 control with thermostat from 90*-210* the fan (in low speed) gos on when the temperature reach its mark. High speed with the AC. ![]() here is with two relays, fan (in low speed) gos on when you turn the truck on. High speed with the AC. ![]() if want to use a thermostat with the two relays option you can put it in the first relay where the ignition cable is. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
Juanjo: Thanks for the Diagrams, really helps out alot. Is there any advantage to having the fans on all the time rather then come on when temps Increase?
Where did you get your relays? On the 2nd diagram, where is the temp sensor? Also: Which Thermostats would you recomend, im pretty sure I want to use two relays. I want the low speed always running but I want the High speed to come on if the temps get too high or the A/C Comes on. Last edited by Onimun : 09-15-2008 at 02:30 AM. |

Re: Hayden/Imperial vs Taurus E-Fans: My Review
there really isn't much power to be made by elec. fans or mpg's to be gained a set of underdrive pulleys do way more for your vehicle converting to elec fan is a waste of time in my opinion you most likely will not even notice a difference
