found out diesel fuel isnt good in a 4.3

well i just moved to a SMALL town a few weeks ago and went to a country gas station and thought i was told they DONT sell diesel.....

i went to the pump and put $20.oo in and left ........

only made it about 2000 feet before it started acting up bad and pinging like a mo-fo....... thought it was watered gas..

limped it home about 1 mile and investigated the problem. found out they DO sell diesel, lol.

so i unhooked the fuel filter and hooked a wire up to the fuel pump test port under the hood to the battery and pumped out about 3 gallons at a time into a drain pan. (had exactly 8 gals.)

added about 2 gallons of leaded 93 octane and pumped it out also to rinse the tank.

i then replaced the fuel filter, cleaned all the plugs, added an octane booster and after about 2 hours of running it (stalled a million times) got it running like a champ again.

oh and to ad to it, the pump i used, the sign that said diesel "blew off the pump" in a wind storm

so says the owner....
is it against the law to not display this? can i sue???

i did take pictures of the pump, NOT showing it was a diesel pump.

one side of the pump had a fat nozzle, and the other side of the pump had a skinny nozzle, i thought ALL diesel pumps had fat nozzles....

i have since put 320 miles on one tank of gas and still have a 1/4 left, i think this mishap helped out on improving my gas mileage!

I have actuatly had customer put diesel in their BMWs several. I even had one customer do it twice. Yes she was a Blonde and married a rich guy

But I will say gas will not run 2 good in a diesel. I have done that, good thing was it was a tractor, so draining it out and refueling was not that bad, just lost 1/2 day of plowing.

i learned that not all diesel pumps have large nozzles ...the ones for the cars are the same size as gas..and that is a stupid idea..

that sucks...i work at a semi dealer and we rent box trucks out...about 5 or 6 times a year one get towed in because it's full of gas...and they say it is not there fault when we hand them the bill.

lol, ya theres even a sticker in or on a rental truck (maybe not ya'lls) saying its there fault....

i also heard its "better" to put diesel in a gas vehicle then gas into a diesel.....

I have seen that 2 nozzle sizes are necessary. I drive trucks for a living and 1 of the trucks I drive requires the smaller nozzle and the big truck can use the large! Don't know why it's set-up like that but I know I can't use big nozzle in the F-550 because it pumps too fast even at lowest setting. It is pretty dumb pump isn't marked properly !

ok so i got 370 miles out of the tank which i believe comes out to 20.5 mpg

not to bad for a 185,ooo mile motor!

heres the first pic showing the different size nozzles

here i am covering the light that is blinding the camera.....and notice the bottom part of the pump NOT showing diesel

and here is a pic of the same pump the very next morning, the management was told about my problem the night before and also that i was out there snapping pics so they fixed it.

Light duty diesel trucks(pickups) have a different vent system on them than the larger diesels and cannot handle the flow of the larger nozzles, so they have smaller ones. And yes, I have also seen black diesel nozzles, but they are usually at truck stops at pumps that only sell diesel and are labeled as such.

the nozzle shouldn't fit your tank though. I've never seen a diesel nozzle the same as a gas nozzle. that station should be liable for any damages.

Oh yeah big and small nozzles for diesel. Filing up the '08 f-350 work truck every day then filling up my S10, I always had to be extra careful to not too mix them up.

ive seen gas and diesel nozzles the same size before. just that the diesel nozzle ALWAYS has a green rubber thing over it. also, most of the hoses leading from the pumps to the nozzles are white

And yes, I have also seen black diesel nozzles, but they are usually at truck stops at pumps that only sell diesel and are labeled as such.

Filing up the '08 f-350 work truck every day then filling up my S10, I always had to be extra careful to not too mix them up.
