Coolant Leak Drivers Side
99 S10, 4.3L, 4x4
I pressure tested the system and found a leak coming from the rear drivers side of the engine. I was not able to see exactly where it was coming from. However, it appeared to be lower than the exhaust manifold and behind the front tire. The truck has been burning coolant for some time now, however I was never able to see a leak on the driveway. No white smoke. No milky oil. Any suggestions? |

Re: Coolant Leak Drivers Side
after i got a leak and tore the engine apart with a buddy from work he explained to me that the leak could b in the front and just run down the side of the block to the back, it just depends on how it wants to travel. i had same symptoms, no milky oil/ white smoke, nore dripping. just did a fluid check and it was obvious i was missing some...
I agree with Fannatick, lower intake is ur best bet with the 4.3, we've gone through 2 or 3 of them in the work vans in last month, all lower intake |

Re: Coolant Leak Drivers Side
Thanks everyone for the quick responses.
I plan on working on it this weekend, I will post the results. Are there any other hints/tips of things that I will encounter or watch out for when I tear into it? Are there any other parts that I need to get besides the gaskets? Thanks again |

Re: Coolant Leak Drivers Side
You should "search" before you tear into your engine. You want to verify first that it is you LIM and then you can find other things to replace when you have the top end apart. Also you want to make sure you get the right gaskets (fel-pro)(sp?) instead of the crappy ones your replacing.
