camshaft confusion?

ok so i own a 99 s-10 with headers intake pullys, e fan, mass air flow sensor, high flow cat, and exaust, and now im starting to look into getting a cam kit. i dont understand all the duration of lift and all the specs i get that they work your exaust and stuff but not sure what i need. i like to drive my truck alot, i want alot of low rpm power, i dont like to rev the balls out of my truck its not a honda. i would like an entire kit so theres no mix and match or bs. i saw on summit they come with timing chains and lifters and the works but what all should i be looking for in a cam kit and what else would be a wise purchase and move while im there. o yea and i want it to sound like its camed loud!

Re: camshaft confusion?

I Would Look At The Comp 56-440-8 Or 56-450-8 But Keep In Mind When You Go A .500 Lift You Are Going To Need To Switch Over To Adjustable Valvetrain So You Will Need Arp Rocker Studs #100-7201 And Some Different Rockers Arms That Have A Longer Slot For For The High Lift Cam. Comp Rockers #1417-12 Is A Good Choice. Go To Rpmmachine.com This Is Where I Work And Can Get You Setup.

Re: camshaft confusion?

Also I Would Put Some Deep Thought Into If Your Going To Do A Turbo Because The Cam Plays A Big Part In That. You Lobe Seperation Angle Will Need To Be 114/115 Degrees So You Dont Waste Boost.

Re: camshaft confusion?

i called comp cams and asked about the valvetrain needed to work with my cam that i bought and they said you don't "need" an adjustable valvetrain but its recommended....up to you.

but ya, if you're gonna run a turbo or nos or something the LSA should be a lil higher to maximize what you get out of it...
