Belt squealing/SES light

Hey guys. I have a stock 1993 S10 with the 4.3v6 5spd 2 wheel drive, AC and compressor has been removed by previous owner.

Last week or so Ive had some noise coming from my belt(I assumed) mainly only at idle and not that much squeal. Today it started to get real bad. I was going to the auto part store to get a new belt even though on visible inspection mine didnt appear to be bad and it got a lil worse. 1st of all I couldnt get a new belt because the idiots at pepgirls said they didnt have any size listed for my truck with out AC so I have to take mine off and see how long it is. 2nd it started to squeal REAL bad on the way home and louder with more engine load/rpms. Turned on to my street and threw a code (SES) light.

When I wake up tomorrow Ill go check the codes (Should be able to jump the two pins and flash the light right like in my 87 monte carlo?). What do you think could make a belt squeal that would also throw a code?

Thanks!

Tom

Re: Belt squealing/SES light

I would remove belt and spin alternator by hand, maybe the bearings shot? I've had this happen a couple times. SES may or may not be involved.
