I could use some advice on what to do after making a big mistake ... I dropped in a new engine coolant temp sensor and must have overtightened it because I cracked where it goes in. I haven't worked on a 4.3 before I assumed the threaded hole where it goes underneath the thermostat housing was pretty standard for the 98-05 and that it appeared to be a part of the lower intake (since the upper intake is plastic) and so I found a replacement intake on ebay marked for 98-05. When I got it, I noticed that it didn't have the spot for it. Some digging here on the forum and it turns out that there were 2 different setups .. one where it goes on the driver's side of the block and another where they put the switch there and put the sensor on the front by the thermostat. Great!
So, for now I've used some JB Weld to seal up the crack. But, I'd rather this not be a long-term fix.
So, 1st question ... is the hole for the temp sensor that goes under the thermostat housing part of the lower intake manifold and I just need to source the correct one? Because, its really tough to find ...
And then, how long can I trust some JB weld there?
And lastly, any other advice being in this situation?
Thanks!
