94 4.3 vortec cranks but wont fire...

yesterday my truck just out of no where died on me in when i was at a red light. thought it was out of gas so we rolled it down to a station and put some in it... nothing still wont fire. then we checked to see if there was spark and there was none. i have heard that pre 96 4.3 motors dont have a Crankshaft Position Sensor. is the correct? my next move was going to look into the distributor and cap. anything else i should look into?

No CPS. That was for DIS motors. See if you got power to the coil. and dist.

Could be numerous things. How many miles on it? I take it you have fuel pressure also? How did you check for spark?

Check for spark on the coil spark plug wire.
If you have spark there but not at the plugs; suspect need for new cap and rotor.
If no spark have the ignition modual checked....

if u turn the key on and the lights on the dash dont come on but the engine turns over its the ignition switch not the key switch i had a 95 s10 4.3 4x4 manual trans that that happened to carried it to 2 different mechanics before they figured out what was wrong cost about 300 bucks back in 03 to fix it i think it had about a 140,000 on it when it went

Re: 94 4.3 vortec cranks but wont fire...

I had similar problem on my 93 Jimmy, the problem was ignition module, I had spark, gas, but not fire.
In these models, that modul acts as crank sensor, no crank signal came to ecm, no signal from ecm to cpi !!
about $70 for that part !
