4x4 gas mileage

First off I have a 95 4x4 x-cab sonoma riding on 235 75 r15's. And I dont have the HO 4.3l. As of now I'm only getting 15 mpg with a mix of city or highway driving. I dont know the gears it has although at 55mph in 5th gear the tach is at 2000 rpm. Is this mileage similar to what you guys are getting? I looked everywhere and couldnt find the numbers, but mileage seems to be low for this engine. I know some will say i need to lay off the gas however I know that isnt a problem. Any feedback is appreciated....thanks

Re: 4x4 gas mileage

my 96 blazer gets about 270 on 16-16 1/2 gallons. it has a 18 gal. tank i think and no thanks to the gas gauge. just did a tune up so gonna see what happens. oh and i think you have a 3.42 gear or somewhere around there for going 55 at 2000 rpm. i have the infamous 3.08 gear and i can`t think of what rpm im at 55 but at 50 im at 1400-1500 rpm. maybe 1700rpm at 55mph for my blazer????

Re: 4x4 gas mileage

Both my old 93 blazer (traded in) and my new 05 Blazer ZR2 got 15-19 city-hwy.

The new one prety much just looks better, runs smoother, drives way, Way, WAY better, has no rust and has a warantee...

Re: 4x4 gas mileage

my '01 gets 20hwy and my '91 about the same. both running 3.42's 31's and 30's respectively and to boot the 91 is rather moded. I turn 2Kr's at 70mph.

Re: 4x4 gas mileage

These trucks werent noted for alot of power or milage(still better than a full size of the same year), but there is ways to get better gas milage, replace the very retrictive intake, and exhaust these things have. And if you have a earlier 2nd gen with the egr front and center on the intake, replace it with a later egr from like 2001 or newer, or just get a egr limiter. These things dump way to much egr into the engine then what is need, getting less egr deffinatly help my milage and it was the bigest improvment in that catagory. I get alittle over 20mpg highway doing 65-70mph.

Re: 4x4 gas mileage

any info on that egr mod?

I disagree with intake/exhaust. Noticed a loss of economy with those mods.

I get just under 18mpg according to the display on the overhead console. I need to change the oil and air filter soon.

I got a 1991 Blazer 4x4, 4.3L, 700R4, 3.42 gears, 235/75/R15's and the last 2 times I got gas, my gas mileage came out to 15.6mpg and 15.4mpg all city driving. Only floored it a few times around corners on dirt roads

Yes My 4.3 Is a MultiPort 4.3 Vortec. I love it. I'm not so crazy about the TBI 4.3's I mean I get better gas mileage and more horse. Ya I have a lil Less troque then a TBI but for better gas mileage hey I can deal with it...

Re: 4x4 gas mileage

My 95 TBI ext. cab with intake, exhaust, and a completely loaded down bed and ext. cab got 27mpg on a 500 mile trip out here to Texas Tech Univ. That was following my parents who get up to 65 in a full day and then go 5 under the whole way. I have the 19 gallon tank so I can usually get about 400 miles on a tank and average 23-25 mpg when I'm driving kind of hard on the highway. In the city is another issue though. I tend to get about 12mpg, since I have a lead foot. Not sure what I get under normal driving in the city.

thats quite a mix of fuel economy, 27mpg is amazing but hey if it works don't change a thing

Re: 4x4 gas mileage

4x4, 3.42, 31's 5spd, vinZ, just calculated this weeks mpg and got 20 mixed about 70%highway and 30%city.

with the 31's my gearing is comparable to stock 235 75 15'S with 3.14's.
