2000 blazer wont start. Fuel pressure?

2000 blazer with 4.3 wont start. I checked fuel pressure, it was 50 psi. I checked the book and it said it needs to be 55-60, i think??? Now does it have to be 55-60 psi to run?

Re: 2000 blazer wont start. Fuel pressure?

Mine started to get less pressure when the pump was dieing. When you first turn the key pressure should spike to ~60psi, idel psi should be ~50-55. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed, and how fast dose the pressure drop after the ignition is turned off?

AFAIK, it won't start at 50. More like 55 psi min. to start. Prolly a bad fuel pump but it could be the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator).

To check if it could be a fuel pressure regulater take that top off the throdel body and see if you can see a puddel of gas in the back passinger side of the intake, youay be able to smell it also.

It will "run" at 52 psi, but that's at idle with 22 inches of vacuum. Start-up has almost zero vacuum and requires more pressure.

Re: 2000 blazer wont start. Fuel pressure?

Direct from the GM maintenance manuals.

When you first turn the key, pressure should be between 60-65. it will go down a few PSI after the pump shuts off.

Wait 30 seconds and then turn key again to prime pump. Pressure should go to 60. After pump primes, it should stay above 56psi.

If it does not stay above 56psi, you have a problem and need to look further into the problem such as return lines, FPR, or injectors.

2000 S-10 GM service manual calls out for 60-66 PSI. Higer or lower will throw CEL.
Look at changing your fuel filter located on the Drivers side frame rail and then re-check pressure.

Re: 2000 blazer wont start. Fuel pressure?

fuel pressure when priming seems fine, for some reason i remember it being 50, but it is 60, drops to 45 while cranking. Got the wrong fuel filter, going to get the right one now.
