What years can I put a 1991 2.8L motor in?

Hello All... I have a 1991 S10 that's been in the family since new. The 2.8L 5 speed runs fine, but the body (well you know) is crap. Surface rust, driver door won't close all the time... yadda.

What years of S10 can my 2.8L v6 fit into easily? I don't think mine has a carburator, it's more of that fuel injection/carburator thing.

Also, do I have to keep my standard transmission or can I put this motor into an automatic truck?

It's called TBI (Throttle Body Injection). Just thought you'd like to know.

if it has surface rust, sand and primer the thing, and get an el cheapo paint job for now....as far as the drivers door not closing...go to kragens, and ask for a door pin bushing kit....its in the help section, and is only 5 dollars for 1 pin/2 bushings

Thanks, you know I had no idea that the pin/bushing was an item I could buy like that... I guess i'll need two of them (one for the bottom, one for the top). Is that spring an issue??

If you mean the spring in the door hinge, you can get a GM door spring tool from Harbor Freight for (I think) less than $10, or rent one from an Autozone. It's not necessarily required to remove the spring and service the pins, and some have managed to get the spring back in there without the tool, but I found it pretty much impossible to re-install the spring without that handy little device. Looks kinda like a pair of metal tongs with a bolt running through the middle of it.

cool, I found one on Ebay (which I bid on). My sagging door will soon be a thing of the past!

I am still holding our to get an s10 with a blown motor I can transplant mine into, but this will do in a pinch.

Thanks.

on my 93, I was able to use my large flat screw driver.....on my 85 I tried for half an hour and couldn't get the damn spring in, so I gave up...(autozone and harbor freight are both 1.5 hour bus rides from me vs 20 minutes in a car ) Now that its the weekend, im gonna bug my dad for the car..this town is still new to me, so ill have to "explore"

A way of putting the spring back in is:
If you have access to some welding wire or strong regular wire and a vice, you clamp the spring shut in the vice, run the wire through it and twist it till it's tight. Turn the spring a bit and reclamp it, same thing, run wire #2 through the spring and twist it. Now undo the vice, put the spring back in its position. Using some wire cutters, snip the wires and it pops right back into place. But the tool is cheap and less of a hassle.
