Throttle Body Rebuild - Hints, Suggestions

I just got done cleaning out my TB and I'm about to replace it. I'm also about to clean and rebiuld the fuel pressure regulator and install some new fuel injectors. It seems easy enough, but I just wanted to make sure. If you guys have any hints are secrets or things that I should be sure and do during the rebuild, please let me know.
I have all new gaskets and i'm planning on throwing a little grease on the throttle spring and maybe just a little on the inside of the new TPS...would that hurt anything?

I'll try to get a couple pics, but the funny thing is....there wasn't a single bit of carbon build up anywhere on the TB or inside the intake. I've got 220K on my truck, I guess Berrymans and Seafoam do alot of good through the gas tank.

It's pretty easy. I just rebuilt mine today in the Advance auto parts parking lot. Don't give the star bolts too much torque, but make sure they are nice and snug.

Also make sure the diaphragm gasket is evenly seated around the metal or it will leak.

The diaphragm and O rings require close scruity or they will cause problems.

I spent a little extra time putting the FPR back together. It looked like everything really needed to be precise so I watched all the seals very closely.
The FPR diapragm was a huge pain, but we eventually got it. The stupid thing kept flipping up and kinking a little on one side. If anything goes wrong when I start her back up...my money is on that.

Well, I just got done putting her all back together. She's basically been sitting since early January when the fuel pump went bad. She's got tons of new sensors, seals and other parts so hopefully she'll come through for me. I'm so freakin nervous so I'm going to eat lunch and say a little prayer before I put the battery back in and try to crank her up.

I bought 2 kits, one for a 2.8 a one for a 4.3,one kit had a pair of "dowels" to locate the fpd in place during assy; so I saved them for furtur use.

Don't buy a kit that doesn't come with the 'dowles'. That's the cheap shitty kit. Mine started leaking fuel within a week with the shitty kit (even though I used dowls from a previous rebuild (different car)). Replaced with nice kit that came with dowls and it's been fine since.

Hmm, I guess it would have been a good idea to have asked what the dowels were for. I never even touched them thinking they were part of the kit for a different TBI. Oh well, hopefully I did alright.

Throttle body rebuild kits are ~40 dollars for a good one. Takes 15-30 mins.

Don't buy a rebuilt tbi,if you can do it with minimal skill if you take your time.

Re: Throttle Body Rebuild - Hints, Suggestions

Yeah, the rebuld was actually pretty easy. Here's what I did:

-disassembled TB, FPR and fuel meter.
-soaked overnight in Chemtool parts cleaner
-Used Q-tips and compressed air to clean and dry all valleys, vacuum ports, etc
-Used dremel polishing wheel on all gasket surfaces
-Installed new gaskets, tighted bolts to spec
-Used a little tranny fluid on the injector o-rings.
-Lithium grease on throttle spring

So far so good..no leaks.

You probably should be looking at the fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Throttle Body Rebuild - Hints, Suggestions

hey, you think a TB rebuild would help mine? It runs fine until it hits about 3/4 throttle then it starts running like shit and then smooths back out.
