problem after headers!!
Well i bought the truck then brought it straight home and started tearing it apart and working on it, I got a set of of headers and put on it, and never hooked the smog pump back up, i just pluged the hole on the passenger side header where the smog pump was suppose to hook in. Well i took it and had new exhaust from headers back NO cat into a spintec pro street muffler. But now it wants to surg at an idle like when u come to a stop sign or something it will almost die but never does! Could this have something to do with not having alot of backpressure? ive did a complete tune up plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, pcv valve oil change, seafoam thru the intake off brake booster, and recently some lucas in the gas and still does it! i just wondering if any of u guys have had this problem or maybe knows what it could be.. Thanks

Re: problem after headers!!
Replaced my headers as well and eliminated the smog pump by plugging the hole. The only difference between yours and mine is that I have a catalytic converter on mine. So its possible back pressure may be the issue in that case.

Re: problem after headers!!
sounds like a vacuum leak. check for that first.
also, did you disconnect the wiring to the smog pump? lastl, pull, clean, and adjust the iac. michael |

Re: problem after headers!!
sorry. I had the wrong term. Its called a TPS (throttle positioning sensor). Depending what year blazer you have, you might have an adjustable TPS. Did you happen to bump it, or remove it during your tune up?

Re: problem after headers!!
i highly doubt that its because of the back pressure i have headers, no cat, and glass packed thrush's and i run fine

Re: problem after headers!!
I would get out the old dmm and make sure it is still adjusted correctly. It makes a world of difference if the voltage is off.

Re: problem after headers!!
Yes i put a new fuel filter and fuel pump on it in the begining. It really sounds like a vaccum problem but i can find it anywhere. Ive even takin the egr off and cleaned the ports. It does it the most when u just push in the clutch instead of down shiffing coming to a stop it will bog down and cut out and miss then pick back up rpm. If u dont shift and gradually bring down the rpms it wont do it near as bad? im going to get into it again tomorrow since i got the day off and see if i can figure it out! Any more suggestions will help. Thanks guys!! |
