Not cranking
I have a 87 s-10 4x4 blazer 2.8 auto. It ha been parked for a couple of years and ran fine when I parked it. Put in fresh gas and a new battery and it will not crank. I sprayed carb cleaner over the injector/ air intake while it was turning and it started for a brief moment. This leads me to believe I have a fuel delivery problem. What would go bad from just sitting ? Whats the best way to check and see if the in-tank fuel pump is working?
Thanks |

Re: Not cranking
Have someone turn the key to "ON" while you have your ear near the tank. The fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds to prime the fuel injectors. Outside of that, attach a jumper wire between the 12 volt distribution block on the fire wall and the fuel pump test connector on the driver's side near the power brake booster. It will be a white wire with a black plug on it.
The jumper wire that I keep in my syclone to set my fuel pressure has a alligator clip on one end for the 12 volt distribution block and a spade connector on the other with a blade type (15 amp) fuse holder in between. HTH's |

Re: Not cranking
is the ignition switch turning? or is it just stopping and you hear a clunking sound? because when i bought my s-15 the sad little 2.8L was seized. and when i turned the ignition switch like 1/2 inch and it would stop and i heard a clunking sound. and my dad poured gas and oil and down the carb and i kept on trying to crank it over till it freed itself. are you sure the engine is getting oil and gas? is it getting spark? is the starter even attempting to start it? try the starter and altenator.

Re: Not cranking
do a basik tune up spark plugs plug wires distributorcap and rotor. pcv. if its been sitting so long and your going to be driving it i would also suggest new belts. of course if you get it started. i would also suggest doing a fresh oil change and flush your radiator . it probobly has deposits in it and you donit want that going through your motor. i usually wouldnt recomend it but if all else fails get some starting fluid. it has either in it so it is very flammable. be carefull and good luck
