Need help with my 2.8 engine
I'm new here and I need some help to trouble shoot my problem with my 87 s-10 with a 2.8.
Here is my problem Truck has a hard time starting and once it's running it seems like it's starving for fuel and it won't even idle at all. I've sprayed brake cleaner into the throttle body and it stays running until i stop spraying brake cleaner. Here are the things i have done so far changed fuel filter checked fuel pressure 8psi Opened up the throttle body and cleaned everything up. Checked power to both injectors and had power to both 12v Any help will be greatly appreciated ! |

Re: Need help with my 2.8 engine
engines are simple things: fire & fuel
I am have an 86 w/2.8 - you sure your TBI or carburetor? sounds like your attacking the fuel issue - try the fire side: electrical - plugs.distributor.cables suckage - disconnected line somewhere? a sure killer mechanical - a fubared power steering/AC/alt will frag an engine down so it dont work if your using the same brake cleaner I do, it has toulene in it, very low evap temp - meaning the shit lights if you fart wrong. Its like cheap starter fluid. Flood the intake with cleaner - wait 30 minutes and try it. Keep in mind: all that poo you flushed will go into the engine. Most of it will burn off. I'd check the other things. |

Re: Need help with my 2.8 engine
Sounds like a major vacuum leak to me. My mount gasket just went on my carb, and I have stalling issues at idle. If I get it up off idle it runs just fine. See if you can get your hands on a smoke machine, or spray brake cleaner around the base of the TB and listen for an RPM change, check any spots that could have a vacuum leak.

After removing fuel pump out from the tank i ended up finding my route cuase of my problem. The short little rubber hose off the fuel pump to metal tubing was split in half so i was getting half the fuel pressure.. Thanks for all your guys input! |

Re: Need help with my 2.8 engine
8 psi is too low
youhvae 8 psi with key on and not running ? if so then this is bad. 9-13 on TBI not runnign with key on is normal range and you want it to be closer to 13 than not higherpsi is needed at crank time in order to fire up quickly, or at all. time for fuel filter and pump replacement good luck |
