Just letting everyone know!!
I bought a enw bed for my s10 about a week ago and I should be putting it on by friday. I also bought a rollpan and grill off of a 92 and i am making the grill fit right. My bolts underneath are rusted pretty bad (the ones that hold the bed in place). Is there any way I can get them out without breaking anything? And I know where the bolts go to hold the bumper on, but how do I get them off? Thanks.

Re: Just letting everyone know!!
If the bolts that hold the bed on are pretty rusted let them soak over nite with some WD-40 or something equivalent. That shoud help a bit. The bolts that hold the bumper on are no problem. It takes two wreches, I usually use a box wrench to hold one side, and a ratchet for the other. They should be the same size. Ther should be four of them, two on each side. Just hold the nut, with box wrench, and break the bolt loose withe ratchet. I'll try to figure out the size for ya. Hope that helped you more than confused you. Post again if you can't figure it out. Good luck!

Re: Just letting everyone know!!
I have taken the beds of of *several* trucks in my time... The best "medicine" for the six bolts that hold the bed on is a good can of penetrating oil (PB blaster works good) and a 1/2" driver breaker bar with a few extensions and a SIX point socket. Don't use a twelve as it will be more likely to round the head of the bolt off. If you are lucky after you break them loose, they will spin out fairly easy. If not, they will fight you until they fall out of the hole and the bolts are long (had a few do that on my syclone and S10 the first time)... Just remember to lube the bolts with grease so that they won't be such a PITA the next time.
Don't forget the remove the bolts that hold your fuel filler neck to the fuel door. There will be a ground wire for the fuel sending unit bolted to the underside of the bed. Just look for the braided wire by the gas tank. Be sure to unclip the wiring harness for the back lights also as well as disconnecting the lights for the rear license plate too. There will be a ground wire back there on the frame for the lights that you will have to disconnect as well. If you have a pressure washer, you will prolly want to give the frame a good cleaning as well as some corrosion control. Wax the back of your cab too if you have the time. HTH's |
