Re: hows my heads look?
If it's the 3.1L then yeah, use the 2.8 injectors on the 4.3TB since the TB has a larger bore than the 2.8's. I gotta say that motor looks excellent how'd you clean it up? What did you use?

all i did was wire wheel it up.. then sprayed the high temp gloss black paint.. i was debating on either black or orange, but decided to do black since it would match more.. thanks man

Re: hows my heads look?
been workin my ass off on this motor.. plans are to have it running again by the end of this month.. i really hope this happens.. got the clutch assembly hooked back up, and starter is bolted up to..
![]() then pulled the intake back off and put some sealer down on it, layed it down and tightened up the bolts.. hopefully no leaks!! then for shits and giggles threw the carb and intake on and checked out it looks so far.. i like it! ![]() |

Re: hows my heads look?
Looks pretty nice indeed. Is that the 3.1 or the 3100 and what car did it come out of? Is that all of the original pulley assembly off the 3.1 or the 2.8?

Re: hows my heads look?
its a 3.1L out of a 91 camaro rs.. i think i mix matched the pulley assembly , only thing i hate is the way i have the belt ran.. it run straight across the top of alt. and ac compressor.. so the radiator hose hits it, so i have to tie the hose down so they dont..

Re: hows my heads look?
well i was gonna chew someone a new ass, then i realized what was wrong...
i did the valve clearances and put it all back together and it wouldnt fire, it would just turn over like theres no plugs in the motor cuz the valves were open. so i figured aww shit i have to take this thing all back apart again. so i went into the house all pissed off, then it hit... dur dur durrrrr, theres a hydraulic cam and lifters in that motor (3.4) i need to wait a while for the lifters to bleed down. so im apologizing for something i almost did, which in turn would have made me look like a dumbass but thanx for the info on how to do this! |

Re: hows my heads look?
Think you were in the wrong thread there 1clean92. Anyways, so its a first gen 3.1 then. I want to put a second gen in my S-10 and there are plenty around to throw in I just need to get back to indiana first. Where did you get your motor mounts? What all did you have to do to swap them? Well then again its out of a RWD so I'm guessing the motor mounts are regular ones..

Re: hows my heads look?
Forget the genII, get a genIII. The slight increase from a genI to genII is not worth the effort IMO. But going to a full out genIII is. getting into a stock small port 3100 is rated at 155 HP SAE, which means that a bit more could be pulled out of it without opening it up, next up would be the large port 3100, which IIRC was rated at 175 HP, then comes the best option IMO, the 3400, rated at only 185 HP, but many people have swapped these into other cars, tuned them using MPFI (batch fire) instead of the SFI, and have netted over 190 HP at the wheels. BTW, once I get my mounts figured out, I will likely sell copies to open up the newer FWD engines to be swapped into the RWD vehciles easily. I'm installing a 3500 in my Jimmy, which has a lot of similarities to the 3400, but the mount bosses are a bit longer, meaning that some spacers will be needed for the 3400. The 3500 also requires an external crank trigger to fire the older DIS set-up (used from 1987 to 2004). |

Re: hows my heads look?
when i did the motor mounts, i had a problem using the stock mounts from the block on the 3.1L, i had to use the 2.8L mounts on the 3.1L to make it fit correctly.. also now after i got the engine back together, i was toppin off the anitfreeze and noticed a leak, turns out waterpumps got a leaky seal.. so back off that comes
havent even got to start it yet |

Re: hows my heads look?
Why someone would go through all the trouble to pull an engine just to spray on a can of $5 paint I will never understand.... but to each their own. I like the polished intake.

Re: hows my heads look?
because its what i wanted to do, its not like this motor is gonna be put through hell or anything, and the truck hardly gets driven anyways.. the motor looks 100X better in my opinion then it did, but ur opinion...

Re: hows my heads look?
Well I think it looks great. It's not really that big of a deal to pull a motor anyway so I think if the truck is nice why shouldn't it's most important component look nice as well? And I might have to talk to you about getting some of those mounts Raven, my father has pretty much seen fit to finally end the life of my 300,000 mile 2.8L, would've lasted forever had I not let him drive it...
