hesitation while driving

Just here recently my 88 s10, with a 2.8, has been having a lot of hesitation while driving. it dont do it till about 10 mins into driving, itll hesitate and have no power, its like its not getting fuel, then itll start to backfire out of the throttle body. i take the air filter off and its barely getting any spray. could it be the fuel pump, or something related to that? thanks

Re: hesitation while driving

This is gonna sound stupid, but it might be an easy fix. I had once read you can gain a bit of milage/power if you invert the stock air filter cover. After doing this, I had the same problem. I put the cover back on the correct way and my truck hasn't hesitated, stalled again since. I can only figure by doing this it messed with the readings being sent by the map to the ecm because air is getting into system that isn't being monitored by the map.

The MAP sensor monitors engine load based on vacuum,it measures vacuum at the intake. theres a little rubber hose going to the MAP from the intake,so inverting the air cleaner lid will not effect the MAP readings.

more than likely the extra air from the inverted lid caused the truck to run lean, probably caused by low fuel pressure.

OP,did it do it after you worked on it or just one it started hesitating? u should check your timing, fuel pressure and see if theres any codes in the computer for faulty sensors.

my truck hesitates too but only cause i have a bad o2 sensor and its running lean with the engine light on.

Re: hesitation while driving

Prob more wrong then just that. I'm still looking at replacing the 02 sensor and muffler system, particularly the cat, which may be clogged. No codes stuck in system. But as soon as I flipped the air cover back over, all my bogging and dying issues went away. Never do THAT again!
