'87 S10 Blazer ?'s

I just got a k&n filter for my 87 S-10 Blazer with stock 2.8 and was wondering about some rumors i have been hearing, some people have been saying to flip my air cleaner lid over? does this get more air or is this just another stupid rumor? also i was thinking about gettin a tbi spacer with a helix spiral cut into it. would this do anything also before i go spend money? thanks for the feedback.

Check out 'flipping the lid' thread in this forum. Maybe that will help

Re: '87 S10 Blazer ?'s

Ahh...flipping the lid may make your engine sound louder...but since you'll be sucking in hot engine compartment air you probably won't see any power.

Some TBI engines pick up a little from the spacer...don't expect too much and you probably won't be disappointed. I never put one on my 2.8 so I can give you specifics there.

Personally, since the 2.8 already has a massive air filter area (same as a 4.3) I don't see that you're going to pick up much there anyway. The pre-88 2.8 has the small diameter exhaust, so if there is a breathing bottleneck, its there.

I personally avoid K&N's on non-race cars...they aren't always a problem, but they often cause high silcon levels (sand) in the oil and higher wear metal levels. The HP/mileage gains over a good paper filter are trivial in most applications(read undetectable on the dyno half a percent of an engine's horsepower on a camaro). (Note I'm talking drop in filters here, the cold air intakes are a whole different matter).

Espicially without oil analysis (man, i sound like a broken record about that) I'd have a profoundly bad feeling about running K&N in most applications. Crude Test: If you want to scare yourself, take a new K&N and pour fine dust or flour on it...at least with mine, pleny fell through onto the black paper underneath.

Re: '87 S10 Blazer ?'s

so what yur saying is that i basically waisted money on my k&n filter and it was a bad way to go? well i hope that it ain't the case for mine. i am definatly gonna try the dust test though. i think i might also avoid the spacer. well alright then thanks for the feedback.
