Re: 2.8L starting issues
I would check the timing first, sounds like the distributor isn't in right. A bad o-ring under the dizzy will only make it leak oil like crazy and has no effect on the engine running (unless you run it out of oil).

Re: 2.8L starting issues

Re: 2.8L starting issues
Are you sure your calling the correct cylinder #1? Did you pull the dizzy? Are you sure its not pointing at #4 when it should be at #1 (sounds like the case to me)

Re: 2.8L starting issues
no that shouldn't hurt anything. I agree with neo71665 either you got in on # 4 or a plug wire is crossed somewhere.

Re: 2.8L starting issues
Did you take the timing chain off for any reason?
Same problems can happen with a 4.3. Hell I worked on a 350 the other day that somebody had plug wires crossed. |

Re: 2.8L starting issues
Their pushing on TIMING as an issue due to the backfire.
The things supposed to fire when the valves are both closed and the cylinder is up. Backfiring thru the TBI means a valve is open (intake) and you get a plug firing. What did you touch prior to this or did it just start doing it? I'm with everyone else: plug wires or dizzy. |
