what should 88 2.8 s10 be able to rev to sitting still or even driving seem like mine goes over 3000 rpm

Mine runs at about 1000-1100 rpm at idle and driving it gets maybe up to 2500 at the highest (just cruising around town). I've got an 86 s10 2.8 TBI, I'd imagine it's pretty much the same setup.

well, if i'm just sitting in park, and giving it a good hard rev it usually gets up to about 3000-3600 rpm

It may, but when I get it to that point I start fearing for its life hehe.. The engine is in pretty decent shape, but it's still not exactly brand new either.

Yes It revs higher than 3600rpm

i used to have a five speed on my 2.8 and i took her to 5500 rpm all the time haha. and no the motor was stronger then ever, no burning oil or anything after 30,000 hard miles like that
