2.8 blown head gasket questions!!
got an 88 single cab with a blown head gasket. wondering if i should just pull the heads and slap some new gaskets down, have the heads checked out or would it be worth pulling the motor and installing a comp cam 252h k kit (k12-205-2) cam shaft, lifters, valve springs and retainers, valve locks, valve stem seals. and maybe a new oil pump have the block checked out and new bearings for crank im going to be using it as a work truck, driving a total 80 miles a day. looking for good gas mileage and maybe do a little towing/haulin has a 179000
thanks adam |

Re: 2.8 blown head gasket questions!!
Just did all the above without the cam on an engine stand. Mine was leaking oil so I replaced all the seals also. Much easier to do a good job on a stand in my opinion. Top trans bolts are not that bad if you just lift the body a few inches. I've finished that and have been doing body work over the past week and now it's ready for paint. I used POR-15 all ove the frame, inside the doors, and floor. I'll have a near new 4x4 for about $2500 once I'm all done. All in all I've really enjoyed fixing up this little pickup. Tony

Re: 2.8 blown head gasket questions!!
It could never hurt anything, I put a Meiling MT-5 cam which is comparable to the Comp 252. The idle is real smooth, the milaege isn't that great however but my right foot may be the problem there. Also put a new clutch in if you haven't. I didn't on mine and now two months after the motor is finished I need a new clutch and have to seperate the trans/motor again. Look at it this way its extra insurance that you've got something fresh under the hood!
