why acdelco?

After reading through a lot of threads I've noticed that everyone prefers ACdelco's plugs over other brands. I'm just curious as to why because we've used autolites in most vehicles we've owned and never had a problem. I'm not trying to prove anybody wrong, just curious.

Re: why acdelco?

It's a personal preference. I use AC Delco's and NGKs most of the time. If I owned a Ford, I'd probably use Autolites. LOL

Re: why acdelco?

i had issues with my first 2.5l 5 speed so the dealership messed with some parts and it ended up blowing up a spark plug tip, it had no tip on it at all after it exploded, did it twice on autolite walmart plugs, switched to acdelco and problem solved

Re: why acdelco?

I had ngk iridiums that were 7 bucks a pop. Had them for a few months truck started running rough and loosing mpgs. So I went to advanced and was bsing with a guy in there and recommended ac delcos and i asked why. He said that the plugs were designed for stock replacment and designed buy better engineers. So what the hell I tried them to see if he was right. My truck now runs better than ever. Its great to have a daily driver that gets 30+mpgs.

Re: why acdelco?

steve you have a 4.3....why on earth are you in the 2.2 section?

Yeah for any GM I only use Delco ignition parts...wires/plugs so far that is. I've had horrible luck with anything else

Re: why acdelco?

I had used Bosch platinums since I took the factory Delcos out around 20k up until 205k when I tried NGK V Powers cause they are SOO much better, or so I am told. I ran several sets of Boschs in that span of mileage. Truck runs the same on either one. I stayed with NGK just on price alone otherwise I would easily run Bosch again... AC Delco... Autolite.. whatever is on sale. I run cheapo Autolite Coppers in my 480fwhp Camaro that gets sprayed often in the summer months. I change plugs too often to spend $$ on expensive ones any longer... cheap is the word.

Re: why acdelco?

The logical idea most of the time is if you buy cheap, you get cheap. If you wanna play you gotta pay! I've never had a problem with my AC-DELCO Triple platinum plugs. They are already pregapped and have never failed on me. Plus if you know certain people at your local chevy or GM dealership like i do, you can get net price on parts and will be all set! GOOD LUCK!

Re: why acdelco?

Well, first off, Autolite is a Ford brand, so why put them in a GM vehicle? I put Autolites in my 78 Olds Cutlass, and I literaly blew a plug out the head, and that thing was torqued down. ACDelco, has always proven to be the best burning plug in a GM vehicle, with NGK being a close second.

Re: why acdelco?

Well, fortunately they have parts that ACTUALLY works and VERY effiecient and that's DIS with plug and wires. It's very good that aftermarket isn't needed on stock motor.

Ignition on 2.2 is pretty good as is and doesn't get much better than that.

I've used MSD plugs and they work as good as Delco and last me long time so far. I've used Bosch plus, with single and quad electrode, they are nothing but PITA! I got codes going at 5k-10k, misfiring, losing bit mpg. Swapped to Delcos plat, perfectly smooth idle, mpg got better even before Bosch. No need to try other brand except NGK.

I also used Taylor wires, turned out well and last long too.

Hence why I always recommend Delco/Taylor/MSD(8-8.2/8.5mm)

Re: why acdelco?

The platinum variety for ACDelcos, Autolite, and NGK are all the same plug made by Honeywell. There is atleast one post I've seen on this forum, recently, from a member that supposedly worked at the plant where they built those three brands. I always buy Autolite because they are cheaper by a few bucks than the ACDelcos.

People put Ford 9 inches in GM drag cars, Ford car front suspensions on older Chevy trucks, and vice-versa, swap engines between companies, and a few people on here talk about taking the rear axle out of Explorers and drop them under their S-Series...so what's you point again?

Re: why acdelco?

i own a 1977 pontiac trans am 400 and when i changed the plugs i used a bosch copper they sucked wind and made my t/a run like crap so i switched them to the r43ts and problem solved. i also just recently changed my plugs in my 00 2.2 i changed them at 95000 and the plugs looked new and they were delcos and i will not use anything but a delco plug they are worth the money you will spend on them.

THe questions is, why not use AC Delcos. LOL I have Bosch Platinum +2 in mine though, and it runs fine, had them in there for 2 years now.

Re: why acdelco?

I work in GM dealerships and see the issues caused by other brand plugs in GM veh's. When plugs are as major a job to change as they are on some cars, I sure don't want to take a chance on putting in junk plugs. If you can't afford the difference, save your money and do it right.
