yes the 4l60e is the same tranny tht came in auto camaros/firebirds....its also thje same in the 4.3 trucks it will both up to a v8
They're not even close to the same trannies. They share some internal parts, but they far from interchange. Even the convertors are differant on the 2.2's
I should have one in late April, early May with around 60K on it, when I scrap my daily beater, because of rust
It would be easier to list the things that are the same. Lets see, OH yea, the name
be paitent old fart...
the 2.2 and the 4.3 are not interchangeable due to the fact the input shaft on the 2.2 is shorter by hald an inch, and has a different hub spline pattern in the torque convertor, and many differences in the physical characteristics of the 2,2 convertor , the internals besides that are similar, but there are servo and very subtle calibration differences in the valve body.
the 2.2 used a code 554 servo whereas the 4.3 uses a 553 servo
the 2.2 valve body is also calibrated with a b or c coded 1-2 accumulator
whereas the 4.3 can have anything from a b code (the zr2 trucks) to the d code (the 4 door sonoma 2wd with 3.42 gears) there are also different lock up valve spring calibrations beween the 2, and the 4.3 generally has a bigger EPC feed hole in the pressure regulator valve.
you can not swap these 2 as complete units, and i would not reccommend cross swapping parts between the 2, as you can cause a bunch of mismatched parts problems. i usually preach its best to fix what you have unless you have a direct replacement, and this is where i stand again

Aside from 4l60e, is there a specific code to search for when on the hunt to mate one to a 2.2 specifically? We just bagged my girlfriends 2001 and she wants an auto but loves the driveability of the 2.2.
You'll have to find an auto from a 2.2 S10/Sonoma/Hombre. And you'll need the wiring/computer to get everything to work. It won't be an easy conversion, but it's possible. You'll want to verify what year 4L60E's will work because there are differences between the electronics throughout the s10 history.
